Considering what I have seen myself of SoE, I do not get the appeal, sorry. The Secret of Mana system is the ONLY thing that drew me to this game and even then, I couldn't find this enjoyable. The first boss I saw had like thousands of HP and was practically unbeatable. What the ♥♥♥♥...?
If you want to tell me what you find so appealing in SoE then maybe I'll change my opinion...
SOE uses the basic system from SOM but its just "a bit" better.
Some samples are:
- You actually can stock up your items up to 6 insteed in SOM where you are only able to stock them up till 4 (and that only for 3 characters...)
- It uses a "more fitting" magic system, which actually work pretty well with the game. it gives tones of "spells", even a lot hidden ones.
- The dog is Mostly played by the computer and that also pretty well, the dog also doesnt needs "tones of gear" to help you out.
- the weapons actually are pretty much very good balanced, sadly it gives only "4" (if you give the bazooka a own) kinds weapons, which is axe, spear, sword & bazooka. (but still, it doesnt need to have a whole lot of weapons tbh)
- Most importantly, the story. Unlike in SOM, In SOE, youre "just a random guy with his doggo" who want to get home. The story and how its made is actually pretty charming sometimes and often reminds the player how it could be if youre in the place of the character.
- you can only "charge" your weapons up to 2 times, unlike in SOM where you could charge them up 8 times, which , honestly, was *way* to much. 2 times is really ok and fitting.
- The music is srsly a eargasm. Sure, SOMs music is also great but SOE is the one you really can go with and fitting to the situation wile SOM "pumps" more up the situation with its music.
The only think i would like to see for the SOE remake (which i doubt will sadly ever happen...) that they add a 2 player mode, local and/or online. It was something which was somehow missing in the original but that its only a single player games makes it automaticly not more worse then SOM, which sure had a 3 player mode...
I will not say SOE is better then SOM but, if im honest here, the system was slightly better if you think about it.
i "guess" you mean Thraxx. The red big insect like thing which is also on the cover art, if im right?
SOE presents pretty early on already that the system is not just "button" mashing like in SOM, some boss fights have systems, like Thraxx. Thraxx is actually easy to defend if you fight like this:
At this state, you only have your "Bone" as weapon and should be able to cast 2 magic skills, i duno the english names right now so let me call them "sparkle" which is the firemagic you get from fireeye and the..."Swampbomb" you should also get in the swamp or somewhere like (i dont remember right now where tbh, its long long time ago).
Before you fight Thraxx, you should level up your Bone up to at least level 2, so that youre able to charge your weapon 1 time. Sparkle also should be leveld up to level 2. The Dog should also (since he only is able to "bite") level up his "weapon" to level 3 but thats kinda a "side thing".
If the fight begins. try to get close to Thraxxs "ventricle" (where his heart is). just hurt it with normal "0%" smashes till it will be open. if it opens, charge your bone. if charged SMASH his heart, you will make HUGE damage. If possible, try to avoid his arms and kill his minions he will spawn sometimes, let the dog do the dirty work. Also stock up with heal stuff too. VIGOR should be done soon with some more charge attacks coz wile youre in his ventricle/ near his heart, he actually cant attack you. ONLY if you smash his heart, he yells at you, pushing you away from his heart and you will take some damage.

since he also has only 600 HP, some charage attacks and hes done.
Dayum i still remember all this stuff? XD i feel old now.
The video pretty much shows you how, i duno which level this guy was here (looks like level 6... since he lvl up after the fight) but you should try to stay OVER 30 HP yourself, heal the dog sometimes, if in need and charge your attack. 600 hp is not that much if your charge makes around 70-90 Damage. IF you want (you can try but its not that simple), you can take control over the dog which should charge his attack at this state hopefully already 2 times and his bite makes around 120-160 Damage.
the dog is the best. I dont wanna spoiler to much but he will change in every world...and im sure you will have a laugh in world 3 X´D
heheh ok but yea
it gives a lot bosses later on where you have to actually "think" how to fight those best. pretty early on, in world 2 as sample, there is a boss (VIGOR by name) you can best attack only by throwing your spear at him from the back. otherwise you dont really make much damage (like here Thraxxs).

It sometimes needs a bit time to defend a boss if you dont know how to do it first but simply button mashing is MOSTLY the wrong way at least in SOE :)
you sure will have some fun, with it
INCASE you really need some help, im actually willing to help. I didnt played it in a wile but i sure know some good secrets and boss hints and dont need the internet before.
as sample, there is a mission later on in this game, where you have to find "2 Eyes" (i dont go into the detail right now). Before you go and start this mission, you should meet your old friend in the 2.world in the palace. ONLY THEN and ONLY BEFORE you go hunting for the 2 eyes/objects, he will give you a mighty spell which heals you a bit AND makes you untouchable for every kind of damage. I duno how the spell was calling but it WILL be a very useful one for the last boss fight.
ok i should write a guide about the game sometime X´D
