What's exactly the idea of "Hoofing the ball" ?
meaning B button

Been wondering that myself. I think its like kick, but automatically directed towards opposition goal. I never use it, seems pointless.

You could consider it a long pass or cross button. It just means a long high ball. You can do the same thing with the shoot button with a long press and pulling back to lift the ball.

I think the hoof button is broken. At one session I was using like Parabolee said and it was useful, it actually was stronger than shoot button + pulling back. I could use it to make long balls, crosses, even do a long ball in direction to my defenders

In other 2 sessions it was just a strong kick into the opposite goal, like TeHu81 said. Wherever I was, wherever I pointed, Hoof just gave a strong boot to the general direction of the opposition goal. (actually always to the middle of the goal)

As a high ball (when it works like that) its useful. As a strong boot to the opposition goal, is useless.

From the wiktionary

To Hoof:

(colloquial, football (soccer), transitive) To kick, especially to kick a football a long way downfield with little accuracy.

yes.. i have notice this randomness to be honest, in a specific game i managed to score more than 3 goals from a specific location. I have tried that again with no luck, always with the same player. Perhaps it was the goalkeep skill who made the difference, can't say for sure! Anyway, when the full release is ready i bet we will be given the official answers to all these questions.

Only just started playing, so please take with a pinch of salt - but from using it, and that it seems to default to "kick towards goal", could I throw in the suggestion of a "through pass" button? Literally, an un-autoassist 'pass in that direction' button?

Since the hoof is automatically targeted, you can use it to clear the ball or shoot even though you are facing the wrong direction. No need to turn around and risk losing the ball. Might be very strong move in some situations.

You can make through passes by manually pointing ahead of the player. It works wonderfully and it's not automatic, so it needs some skill.

Some way to change power of pass and not bend the ball after doing the pass (since you'll probably be controlling the receiving player) would be good (and many people already complained about that, so I guess its something the devs are on), but it works pretty well so far.

It actually works better than in PES, when through passes go wrong because of an internal dice roll and just makes me scream "WHY DID YOU PASS THE BALL IN A ♥♥♥♥♥♥ WAY LIKE THAT?".

I like hoof button to do wide, high passes with direction I want.
You can make high shots on goal with nice bending too...
Like it as it is now.
4 buttons like now is great to play, you have all options.I've played kickoff and SWOS too 25 years ago but nowadays I find SS options better to play.
SS vs kickoff revival for me SS much better.
