I bought the game as soos as it was available. Played it... and to be honest it does not feel the same. It's not the same experience.
I would prefer the original SWOS made available to run on modern systems on steam with mulriplayer and cloud support. That's all. That woul have made me very happy.
The game does not feel the same with 4 buttons plus 2 for tactics. I was hoping to get an old one button joystic (like the Atari usb) and not use a game pad.
You just don't have the same control over after touches with a game pad as you do with those old school joystics.
It might take a little getting used to, but...
The analog control is *GREAT* on this game. If you master it, you can pinpoint long passes and shots with an incredible accuracy. That's why the Aftertouch doesn't need to be as "agressive" as in Sensi and SWOS, in those games you used Aftertouch to compensate the fact you had only 8 possible directions, so Aftertouch gave you more control. Here, what gives you the extra control is the analog control, and then the aftertouch as it is works perfectly for that extra spin on the ball.
I can see the sprint done in a better way (right now I basically never let the finger off the sprint button) and I believe they could easily have a 1 button scheme if you don't want to sprint (since you can live without the Lob and Roof buttons) but, honesty, you'll just be missing on the game.
This isn't Sensible Soccer, this is a new , modern game. I personally love the way it plays right now, but I still can go back to SWOS if I want something more retro :D
Maybe we should approach this as a new totally different game from SWOS. Give it time to grow as well. After all it is early access.
rafael_lima83 is right. It is a new modern game, and close enough to what we loved in SWOS
- Less, or no control of ball depending if you just run straight, or dribble
- Limited sprint functionality with a stamina gauge, so you don't abuse it.
If you can just have it pressed all the time, whats the purpose really ? Then it is just a useless button, that the user needs to keep pressed all the time. Because why wouldn't you just sprint anytime, all the time then, if no limit or penalty ?
As it is implemeted now, it just doesn't make sense.
I'd personally would like if it worked like in PES or FIFA (or even Natural Soccer) - you press sprint button, give a little toss to the ball in the direction the controller is pointing, and the player automatically moves towards the ball a little faster, but you can only change direction after the player reached the ball.
More skillfull players would toss the ball nearer their on feet than less skilfull ones.
This would make sprint a risky thing to do, as you won't be able to change direction fast, but open ups the game for new and exciting ways to dribble.
On defense sprint should make turning slower.
And even then a stamina gauge is not a bad idea, I like the idea of players getting tired, so you have to make strategic substitutions.
Still, if my idea for sprinting is too complex to implement, how it worked in Sensible Soccer 2006 would be fine enough (Not as good as my idea, but good enough I guess :D )
Nope, no fatigue involved atm, that's why it doesn't make sense to have it implemented the way it is.
Unless, it is a bug offcourse, and it wasn't meant to be like this.
I would prefer one or max two buttons. One for passing and one for shooting.
The AI needs a lot of work as it is too easy at the moment. I just played a game and they did a back pass which the keeper could not pick up so he moved out of the way and so they scored an own goal.
For me the top view (2D) is not playable right using the game pad. I mean I cannot control the after touch with my left thumb on the analog stick.
Unless I'm uncoordinated, but I am much better using a proper joystick in the original SWOS.
Now even side view (3D) it does not feel right trying to control the after touch, or at least not the same as it did back in the SWOS days.
I do prefer top view (2D) and I would prefer a one button or two button game in order to use a proper joystick ...
My issue with sprint is that basically you can (and almost should) hold it the entire time. Just like a racing game that you have to hold turbo all the time (along with accelerate), what's the point? And currently it seems like the AI (teammates or opponents) never use it at all. If this game is supposed to be "Faster than F***"... why not make it fast all the time, and ditch the Sprint button? I came here for super simple, fast paced, arcade soccer... and that's what I expect.
I personally am loving the Top View mode... brings back the classic feels. And it's a nice touch to still get the 3D presentation for replays.
Please get rid of this nonsese and get our 1 button gameplay back.
