Sociable Soccer

Sociable Soccer

So...where is the old "Sensible Soccer" ball handling?
So.... I really thought that this game was aiming to get that ball handling gameplay that was a trademark for Sensible Soccer on my old times in AMIGA 500 (*sigh*)

Will this game ever have that gameplay where the ball doesn't stick to the player's feet magically?

(I just bought it and to be hones I'm extremely disappointed with the game on this and other things... :( )

Hi Michelangelo. All you see is work in progress, as this is an early access game. Thanks for the input - we'll have a discussion about ball control again when we take a second look at the stats further on. Cheers!

In old Sensi you could only run 8 directions. Also, your opponent could simply run THROUGH you and steal the ball that way from behind. IMO the ball control in SocS is a lot better.

I do not understand your point...

Here you just turn around and the ball will follow you everywhere...
In the old Sensible Soccer you need to push the ball like football with the correct timing when it touches your feet....that way you require a minimum skill to drive the ball, and also using that mechanic to dribble between oponents..the result was amazing...

here you do not need to do anything..the ball is magically sticked to the player. :(

I doubt the classic (and excellent) ball control from SWOS would please wide audiences nowadays, sadly.
It's an understandable development decision to make Sociable Soccer not so challenging in that respect. As an old Sensible Soccer player, I still think the new gameplay is going to the right direction. Looking forward to next updates, crossed fingers.

Like I said above. There are still balancing to do when it comes to ball control and all other stats.

I hear you Michelangelo.

I used to play Sensi and Kick Off on the Amiga and they were both in my favourite games ever because of the ball handling.

I had the same feeling when I bought this and played my first game.
But it's a work in progress so hopefuly gets a bit more skill involved in the future.

In the meantime I've been playing Kick Off Revival (been out on steam for a few months) - it's so bare-bones that it should be early access but, man, the control's are the best I've ever played in a football game.

It takes forever to get good at it so maybe not good for widespread appeal - might be why they've dumbed down the controls on Sociable - attract the FIFA crowd?

Anyway, if this ends up with controls half as good as KOR then I'm looking forward to it.

I too love the old SWOS ball control, would love to see it back. however SWOS players were constantly sprinting unlike now where in every new footy game that comes out you have to press a button to make your player sprint.

I think it would be good if you had the old sensi ball control when your players sprint with the ball. on the old game, when i didnt control the ball right and got away with it, it looked like you were dummying the defender...

what ive played so far though has been excellent, cant wait to see what the finished game looks like.
