If you strongly prefer the old style the gog version does support newer operating systems and has a 30 day refund policy in case you have any problems;

You basically say that it was my fault for not reading the fine print and then offer to "fix" it by having me buying an other copy that works on my OS.
As I said, I'm not going to stop using Steam just because of this but my trust has certainly been eroded. As has that of just about everyone else who bought this game from you, judging by the rest of the forum posts.
I don't think that Noitalever owns the game.
I didn't realize that. I though Noitalever worked for Steam.
My appologies.
[whatever drive you have it on C for most people] -> Program Files [It might be Program Files (x86)] - Steam -> steamapps -> common -> Myst. That could be entirely wrong depending on where you installed it to, but basically you have to find the Myst folder. Within that folder, find the application. It should end in .exe. Right-click it and select properties. Click on the compatibility tab, try setting it to win xp service pack 3, if that does not fix the problem also try vista and me.
