I would share this with my younger kids.
A note on Riven: I still hate that grid puzzle on the gold dome to turn on the tram system. I broke down and used a guide and still had massive trouble.
Cool idea! Just bought the 25th anniversary pack.
Next, please make a Myst game with a "real-sized" bigger island, and bigger ages. With NPCs. Like Eastshade. Not a Myst game, I guess, but can include Myst puzzles.
Spoilers below, if you can talk about spoilers for a game made 28 years ago...
Also, what about the books for Achenar and Sirrus - are they trap books, or real ages? Because in Myst IV the lore supposedly changed them into real ages, and not just black voids. Is this change reflected in this game? Because if they are not trap books, then verbal communication is not possible, and also the ending is not possible., But if they are trap books, then why did the lore change in Myst IV?
You can definitely talk about spoilers for a game that's almost three decades old.
This has a lot of good info about Myst 4's development: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myst_IV:_Revelation
Retconning the lore so the later entries in the game series would fall in line with the latest Myst was not a goal.
But why Myst.
There's so many Myst versions. Because it is the easiest one to write for VR? Less effort needed?
If you want to get me into buying, again, then Myst VR ist not the right choice
For me, i've played enough versions of Myst
Something i would buy, VR version of URU POTS, or even better bring back Multiple palyer
I am curious how you picture a multiplayer Myst, what do you expect of it?
One reason why people liked the Myst series was puzzles and exploration of a deep story in a beautiful world, at our own pace.
Maybe we sit down and draw a map, study some writings, come up with a theory, listen to the story, have some tea, push some levers to solve a puzzle. -- All things that are not possible in multiplayer because a dozen people are standing next to you shouting "you're doing it wrong, let me do it, there, solved it for you, be thankful!"
Certain game elements, like battles or resource harvesting, are great in multiplayer, but listening to a story or puzzles solving isn't. (Star Trek Online for example has multiplayer battles, but it also has a lot of story to experience, when you play an episode in multiplayer, another person always runs ahead and triggers all the dialog, and you miss stuff.)
That's why I'm wondering, what would a multiplayer Myst even look like, what would you do there with the other players?
Multiplayer Uru still exists. It's had a long, twisted history best followed by reading the Wiki about it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myst_Online:_Uru_Live
And you can still play it, right here: https://mystonline.com/en/
The Wiki linked above tells you most of what you need to know about its history and content. The rest can be gleaned from playing, or from the fans who play over in the Cyan Discord.
