This barely matter when you still need several thousand of gems to buy enough useful items.
- Kits: for some thousand gems (2k to 12k), you will get few blocks. If you want to create a full world with a theme, prepare to buy the same kit like 50+ times
- Boosters: your typical gacha deals. For 1k gems, you get 3 random items. Want a specific item? Pay around 20k gems. And that's not mentionning you can get very few blocks among the items. So if you need lot of a specific blocks... it will cost A LOT of gems (if only going with gems)
- wearables: not only most items here are VIP exclusive, most of those VIP items cost 100k+ gems. There are however few cheap options. Is it usefull? Worth buying here?Personally, no.
- seeds: If you aren't familiar with how seeds work, in order to start a good production of a farmable block, you need a good ammount of seeds to start. With the ammount of seeds in the game, you are very likely to spend tons of gems just to get the seeds you need. And i haven't talked about non farmable seeds.
- locks: honnestly, not much problems in this section.
- fishing: there is only 4 rods types. Yes, better rods cost more gems, but i think 35k gems is a good enough price for the last rod. Do keep in mind however that in order to upgrade the rod, you still need more gems (and materials). Lastly, you can buy lures here. If you want lot of specific lures, you will need lot of gems.
- some relatively costly familliars here (35k to 85k), with some VIP items. I didn't used familiar personally, but i'm assuming you don't need lot of them.
- pets: while the initial pet cost 10k gems, the food and medicine supply can get expansive fairly quickly.
- orbs: for world builders. It can range for cheap orbs to expansive orbs. Luckily, you don't need lot of orbs (if you plan to build a reasonable number of public worlds)
- cards: i mean... you can't get more gacha than this... 50k gems for 50 random cards... guess how many you need to buy to create a good deck? 50k is a big ammount of gems for lot of players.
- wiring: also only for world builders (especially experts builders). I doubt mose of those builders are going to use 1 000+ devices in each world, so i don't think it's very expansive... IF you know what you are doing.
- special: some items ranging from cheap price (nether scroll, recall magnet, magic cauldron, ...) to some expansive items, mostly items for world builders, so you are unlikely to need hundred of them.
- blueprints: ranging from 50k to 950k... to get only 1 item... AFTER you gathered the right materials
- community: very expalsive items here, also time limited...
- clan: some items if you plan to play with clans. The shields are noteworthy items, since they are range 3 weapon.
And that's JUST the in-game shop. But there is much more stuff where you need gems: increasing inventory space, increasing bank inventory slots, buying upgrades (pickaxe or rods), buying equipments (mining, fishing), converting items (by using altar. some items cost 100k gems + materials), ...
While getting few thousand gems is very easy to do for everyone (like just doing some nether runs), it will not be enough to do everything you want to do. The game can get very expansive very fast, and even more with bad currency management.
Last but not least, most players based interaction involves byte coins, not gems. Depending of the items you want to sell in PWE, you can get some byte coin quickly (ex: selling nether crystals). You can also directly convert gems into byte coins. However, converting byte coins into gems is harder. Currently, the only ways are: pouchs, nether crystals, mining gems, and fishes. There are also some special blocks like BBB and spike bombs too.
