Sniper Elite V2
Disable Steam?
Hello all. Just wanted to ask if it's possible to play this game at all without Steam? The reason I ask is not because I have anything against Steam itself. In fact, I think it's a great concept that I would really like to be a part of. However, unfortunately for me I live in a rural area with a terribly bad wireless internet connection that is both very unreliable and has an appallingly low monthly data limit.

I purchased a copy of Sniper Elite V2 from my local store a few days ago as I've been looking forward to playing it for a while, but after installing it wants to do a 1.6gb upgrade before I can play and I just simply don't have the connection that will allow that. In the first place that amount of data is over half of my monthly limit, and in the second the connection isn't reliable enough to complete such a download over the course of the month.

So, can anyone tell me if I have any options or have I wasted my 45 bucks on a game that I'll have to leave sitting on the shelf?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,
Darren.

You can't play without steam. You have to download the update. As a tip for next purchases: look at the back of the cover to find out if game requires steam account.

Could you divide up the download over a few months? A massive pain, I know, but I'm on a decent connection with a crappy monthly GB allowance, so I kinda feel where you're coming from.

If you haven't already figured it out, you can play the single player campaign without having to download anything from Steam. Disconnect from the internet, start the game and play in offline mode.

+ 1
That's right. The only thing is that multi and coop wont be able to play (INDEED) and your scores, kills and stuff won't be recorded in the leaderboards.

No way Jack , that does not work , i just installed it and now it wants to download 2GB on a same rural wireless setup and i'm on prepaid! , when i try to play it says "cannot play as it needs updating" and no way to get around it (like turn it off) , i have had this same BS from steam before early last year , it cost me 29 dollars just to update a game and that one i could not play either until it did .

When i carefully read this DVD at the shop IT SAID 'new fully loaded content' on the box! , what BS and now another 2GB =money for probably a crap game with crap content from steam , the last time after many emails they just did not care and implied tough luck and it's your problem not ours , so this time i read the box? , fully loaded = play out of the box , Ha Ha Ha Ha to to me for letting steam yet again take control of my computer and take control of a game that would more than likely play from the DVD if it was not for steams BS! and i pay for the pleasure (sarcasm) .

Sucked in and really , steam should be banned! , and taken to court for falsities is the most sneakiest corrupt slimy ways that it does , and everyone follows it like sheep imo!
