Also better than SE4 and SEV2 Remastered...

I prefer classic SEV2 over Remastered for certain reasons... but i'm not sure SEV2 is better than 4. I haven't played 4 yet but it really looks like it's the best in the series for me.

My fav is also SEv2 but both 2 & 3 offer unique kind of sniping experience, while in 2 fighting happen in a war torn building area & 3 is more of a wild setting with very long range shooting.

100% facts.

To anyone here - In what ways is the Remastered version weaker than the original v2?

As for v2 being better than 3 or 4 - I really hate checkpoint systems. For that reason plus the larger maps, I prefer 3 and 4

The main disadvantage of the Remaster is the empty list of servers in the network game :))
Perhaps, for some, the gamma seems too easy ...

But the Remaster is adapted for modern hardware and goes much better than the original ... Even in the remaster, achievements were added, there were 46, 71 became :))

Remaster for me, then. I have no interest in MP.

Most gun sounds are worse in the remaster, in my opinion. Except the the MP40 i think. And the anti-aliasing the remaster has makes things blurrier than they should while the one in the original cleans up edges pretty well but the game still looks sharp.

Sorry, but I don’t agree ... :)
The sounds in the remaster, perhaps, began to seem sharper due to the fact that they removed the “soap” characteristic of a sound with a low sampling frequency ...
And the picture, on the contrary, has become clearer ...
As an example - in the original, I can’t look at the sight of a grenade on the fascist’s belt, which is 80m away, it merges with the form. In the remaster in the same scene, I see this grenade - it has clear edges and I shoot it easily ...

Well, regarding the comparison of SE2 and SE3 / 4 ... These are just different games ... Quite different ...

With all due respect, SE2 is a fairly simple and ordinary “rail” shooter ... Improved and well-developed SE1.
It’s a good game for its time and it’s still interesting to play it, but it’s already a “museum value” ... Like “Wolfenstein Castle” and its other clones - with senseless shooting at bottles and collecting tons of gold that is scattered over the ruins :) )) Soldiers suddenly appearing from the air in the newly cleared territory and tanks that pass through indestructible barricades that you cannot pass through ... :)))) The whole difference between V2 and other FPS of those times is only realistic ballistics and " X-ray vision "when hit ...

SE3 is already a free world, although in some places "rails" are found ... A full-fledged stealth is already possible.

SE4 - virtually eliminated from any "corridors". A good system for pumping weapons ("Golden camouflage for the master" let it remain on the conscience of the developers :))) Improved ballistics, taking into account the individual characteristics of rifles and ammunition (who thinks this is not so, pay attention to the difference in ballistics and slaughter for conventional and silent ammunition) ... A rich set of "competitions", available after completing tasks in the main mission. Good, solidly made set of DLC.

I hope that SE5 will keep the general development trend and will not deceive expectations ... :sniperelite:

* Sorry my English, it's Google :steamfacepalm:

Between SEV2 and SEV2 Remastered, I think it is mostly subjective. Things have certainly changed but some of them might not necessarily be an improvement for everyone. This is common occurrence with modern "remasters".

What i think is better in the original:

The textures on the character, weapons and scenery objects. They might be technically superior on the remaster by having a higher resolution, but they often look way too clean which is weird and the colour pallete is altered to be brighter which in my opinion makes the game uglier overral.

The bullet trail on the kill cams. It looked really cool, i don't know why would they remove such effect but they did.

The bloom effect on fire. Another effect that looked good but they removed.

The reload indicator from SE3 and SE4 (that is not present). They included it in the remaster but it only obscures your view and is barely useful at all, especially in singleplayer modes.

The bullet travel sound on the kill cams (not the weapon themselves). The remaster has some high pitched noises right after the shot that sound weird. It was fine before.

Some weapons sound better in the original. For example, the M1903. The original sounds a lot punchier and is so much more satisfying, you can't even compare. Then also the "boom" shot sound in the bullet cams. This is such a big deal for me. That said, some other weapons sound better in the remaster, the Thompson is a great example.

The remaster has some actual improvements though, mainly the higher amount of detail in certain areas and some select textures that look better up close (for example a few specific vehicles which were very little detailed in the original).

It hit or miss. Again, i think it is mostly subjective. I'm sure some people will find certain things better and some others worse in either version.

The real deal with the remaster is being able to play the game on the current console generation with higher resolution and framerate and all DLC included. But on PC it's kind of pointless.

Naturally, everyone looks at the game with their own eyes :) I respect your opinion and in some things I agree with you - for example, I prefer the visual image of the original in color. Although I would not call the remaster ugly, I would say that it looks somewhat "sterile", so to speak. This is reminiscent of the transition from analog to digital sound in the 90s - each has its own pros and cons, each has its own supporters :)

I am a fan of SE since the release of SE1 (it was really cool - the first game with realistic ballistics), and for me, SE1 and SE2 remained the ones I bought in 2006 and 2013 (official release on CD / DVD in Russian). On Steam, I just bought them as a collectible, as a keepsake, I play mostly in SE3 / 4 because I like open worlds more, but now I’m going through the V2 original and V2 remaster in parallel, step by step, and it’s very interesting It seems that everything is the same, but the feelings are different :)

thanks for that. It seems a bit of a wash; one benefit to the remaster is that it's the cheapest way to get the dlc. $11CDN with the loyalty discount.
