laughhrrr already covered the more important bits about it, though. :D
I like it way more than the mist, myself, because if anyone sees the fog, they can just stay away from it; even if they've been caught inside, unless you have a teammate with something that pulls them back into it, or if you happen to have placed lava down before the mist or somethin' to steadily drain their HP or something.
At the end of the day, though, that kind of thing just boils down to preference. Both can change the way a fight's going if they're used in the right spot or at the right time, and with people waking up so fast, that's a good part about cancelling the Feather Illusion a bit early when you realize that you've caught all that you can in the jutsu at that moment. Fortunately, waking up doesn't always mean instantly the most useful, and if your team has any sense at all (Which they do sometimes, of course!) they'll know to save their heavier attacks or their own ultimates to use them on sleeping enemies instead of just a single kunai.
Wouldn't try to rely solely on this as a strategy, though. But it definitely works! It's incredibly satisfying when you actually manage to catch most of the enemy team with it in mid-air, even. A lot of people are avidly against techniques that land a pitfall, but some observation and cautious play will keep that kind of thing from happening for the most part.
