Occasionally, you may be hit beforehand with some kind of defense debuff that just makes every thing else that lands absurdly strong. Oftentimes, said debuff can even pass through your guard, or be transferred even if you use a substitution, so try to recognize if you're ever hit with anything! Look for down-arrows next to your health bar if you're unsure if that may be the case. :O
Could be the game's terrible networking though, but I was just in a match where this attack homed in on me no matter where I was at and no matter how I tried to avoid it.
Two things completely kill an online fighting game: Bad networking and RPG mechanics. I'm not surprised the game doesn't retain a solid playerbase... Well, at least it still has SOME players. Even if it's the same six I see almost every match.
Yeah, it's pretty easy for the most part to dodge most if you just focus all of your attention on getting out of the way of everything, timed with some blocks and that little blocking-counter. Unless you break the whole dodging rhythm and attack, or your opponent does something clever, (if someone decides to sneak up on you) you shouldn't have much issue with that kinda thing. :O
. . . That little blocking-dodge thing is amazing for what it is if you can time it right. >:D It's the best to just shift out of the way when someone charges at you.
