firebase - just some really angry random farmer?
really like the clip, awesome!
but the backstory of the rivergod is really... not convincing or interesting.
just watched it with friends and when they revealed who he was we all went from tense and amazed and creeped out to

WHAT?!? lol...
COME OOOOON hahaha

Story is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weird and interesanting. The horror, a curse, monsters, russians, retro tecnology, bending space/time, the war... All these mixed elements make it genuine for me.

Love the music and sound effects. Great job.

I believe that there'll definetly be more exposition of the back story in later episodes, to explain both the source of the River God's power as well as the futristic Russian things.
I don't get whole concept of "fabric tore around him".
What? What fabric?
How universe can "want" something?

yeah i found that to be a bit "up in the air" too

what i love about BK is that his earlier movies are very consistent and believable, its all very scientific and logical. in these shorts theres a lot of "magic" "somehow" "who knows"
i hope for the final stuff its gonna be well thought out and put together logically

i was totally sucked into it and really excited until it all came down to "some angry farmer"
especially the connection to insect/aliens/monsters wearing human skin simply existing because "he imagined them" seems like they just tried to quickly and lazily connect things SOMEHOW.

a lot of people say "oh but its just trailers/shorts"
but heres why im so worried about this... if they DO go ahead and turn these into movies or series, which is SERIOUSLY hope, this is all going to create a lot of plot holes and headaches moving forward. because everything they establish now they will HAVE to somehow explain and tie together later. it seems like they dont know yet how theyll actually connect all the dots, which means itll be difficult, maybe impossible, to explain it all in a way that actually makes sense and follows logic.

i hope im wrong and they do have it all thought out and connected already!
or they are going to work on it over and over until all the pieces connect and it actually does make sense and follows some logic.
fingers crossed!
really looking forward to this!

Nice deflection.

So putting a supernatural element is silly? I like the farmer story, they are like legends or myths come true. The flashback of the Russians impressed me, a great turn of events, I am also very curious that plays the role of Hines in the course of travel.

I think people are taking these short films wayyyyy too seriously. Like I love how "aliens from space that breathe methane and can control your mind and have goo technology" seems perfectly reasonable, but then magic is just too much of a stretch. It's all just fantasy/sci-fi. I mean Cooking with Bill was just a guy mutilating his hand with an insanely stupid kitchen gadget...

It says right in the trailer that these are "experimental films." Basically the way Blonkamp has described his studio is like an incubator for ideas and talent. This way they get to produce content relatively cheaply and quickly and then get feedback. So IF they turned Rakka or Firebase into a real movie/TV show then I'm sure they would just iron out the issues in pre production on those projects. I don't think they are committed to THIS specific canon or plot. It has the look and feel of a rough draft. Remember that Dstrict 9 actually began as a short as well, and the movie was pretty different from the short it was based on.

That isn't to say I don't have my issues with some of the plot/dialogue choices. It would have been perfectly acceptable for the CIA guy in Firebase to just say "we don't really know what this guy is or how he got these powers" instead of launching into an expositional tirade about grief-magic. Generally mystery is more compelling than exposition, in my opinion. Also the thing about the universe protecting this one guy... Kinda silly. I would have written it more like "you're the only one who's seen this thing and come out unscathed, so we need your help" (something along those lines) But again this is supposed to be experimental content.

I could understand if you bought a movie ticket for this... but the content is 100% free.

You're encountering a kind of ideology. It's not worth trying to reason with it directly as it has nothing to do with the plot or genre and everything to do with OP wanting to promote one type of narrative and suppress another.

Yes but who gave these special powers to Hines and the peasant?

ANCIENT ALIENS
