The devs have referred to it as dead in posts they have posted that's why I say that. I think they refer to it as dead because we do. I think "dead" is something we as a game owner community control how "dead" it is. It's very much alive as a community that love and play the game as of right now. I guess it's going to die because there not doing anything with it anymore. We as a community will slowly stop playing. I'm in my 3rd season and I'm almost done with it. I probably wont play it anymore after I master it, and that's very close. I wish they would keep going with it, and finish/polish it, but there "done" with it sadly.
Back in the day this wouldn't even be a topic bc games were sold as finished product and if there were problems u just swapped ur game for one that worked right.
If u REALLY don't like when games get changed, (I know it's frustrating, i get that way sometimes) then you can always just find another game (not early access) or find a new active hobby
To me and a lot of other players it just seems as if they walked away from this game and did not finish there plans for it. There are some unanswered things like all the blue barriers that prevent you from going to places on the map. I've seen this before on other games and eventually that becomes a part of the map that gets updated or opened up. There is a whole section of the city that you cannot get to..? There are some NPC's that do nothing Like Frank at the garage whats the deal with him? Why do you need extreme cold weather gear and there is women walking around in skirts lol. You get robbed in front of the police by thugs but get caught by police when you steal. You go indoors and there is no temperature change. There is a lot of polishing that I feel would have made more since to add to the game. It just seems like they left the game open for expansion/polishing and are just done with it... There are many people that struggle to play this game and just give up. I'm not one of them like others that get into it, master it, and survive. I'm on my 3rd season, I'm the king and I never died this time around. It seems that after you get it, and start surviving it stops. I think that's why everyone wants more. I'm a Solo player. I don't see any point in playing with other players and how that could change anything.
Simply said: It would be easier to make completely new HoboTL from scratch then extending current HoboTL with new content.
As a Developer it may be finished because it can't handle anything else added to it. As a player of the game it gives me a feeling of not being finished is all I'm saying. After 8+ years of development I think it should feel finished from a players standpoint. Making HoboTL 2 would be great then you all could apply what you have learned from the development of HoboTL and the 8+ years of development. I'm sure that the projects you all are working on currently will be better or give the player a feeling of being finished, because of the experience with HoboTL. I know your team has grown, hopefully they are a great addition and experienced so that you guys can keep making great enjoyable games. I'm happy for the Perun team, and your unique game development thinking. I hope to see great things from you guys in the future.
Taking so many years to not even have finished product is lazy. but a price tag was placed and money was handed over. at some point the gaming industry will take a dive when people just stop buying unfinished products (which is every game now a days practically), which sux because games are a good outlet. But why are people spending money and time on frustrations, idk. But the past few years I keep wanting to put the controller down and find something else to do because games aren't finished anymore.
I couldn't agree more with your statement. Escaping the world we live in and immersing ourselves in the game is a great escape or break that we desire. I guess something is better that nothing so we keep buying in hopes that it will not let us down or leave us wondering why it's not finished to us. It's the same with a lot of movies nowadays. you Know the ones that have a lot of unanswered questions we ask ourselves after it's over, or the crappy ending ones. The non attention to detail is what I have an issue with as a player, and a Marine Veteran that really gets into the game, and pays attention to detail. Things are all about the money nowadays and people just give up to much. There are some developers that are passionate about the games they develop too, and not so much about the money. These are the great games and the developers that make a lot of money and grow. Some of these games developed are just practice unfortunately for some developers.
If they dropped the ball this hard with Hobo: Tough Life, I don't they I will ever buy another title from this developer ever again. They call it "finished" but it feels empty, lacking and gets boring really quick. It had so much potential it's a real shame.
it pretty damn fast becomes a complete begging simulator, where you do nothing than collecting some money from strangers to buy stuff to build up your base
nice and all at first, but so freaking boring after some tiime
make a new hobo then ! This game is great and i really expected to see the south part of the map extended over the river. now i feel sad.
I think the game for what it is seems rather good. We will likely even do another play-through after we finish our current Valheim play-through.
I would love to play a part 2.
I guess that's the state of games now, release it in early access. Work on it till pre-release sales dip down, once you've made your money release what you have, jack up the price and float off of ever diminishing sales.
I suppose I have a good amount of time spent in it, but it has so much missed potential.
