How to fight?

Found a shovel but how do i use it? seems confusing

you only fight when needed. equip it on your character, for example when the thug/ civillian/ cops chasing you. or if you intend to bully other hobos. this is not a game where you equip the weapon, swing it around and smack other people as much as you like
