I just started right now the game for the first time and, as always, the first thing I wanted to do was to change the key assignment (I never use the default settings) And I noticed that I cannot assign the "E" key because it is always in "use"

Yes, it would be nice to have this fixed.
If, by chance, you're a WQSE player like me (as opposed to traditional WASD), it's actually no big deal in this game, since there is no need to use strafing keys at all. I was also disappointed and worried at first, but it turned out it's no issue for me.

Why should they respond when you use wording like this? If you can't play without using the E key to move (??) then that sounds like a you problem.

The problem is that all keys can be reassigned, except for the "E" key...
So it shouldn't be a big problem to be able to change this key as well

Please put a trainee in front of the pc for 5 minutes and let him dig through the codes to solve this "problem"

From what the dev wrote, it's apparently not that easy to fix for some reason. It's not like they couldn't have spent 5 minutes to solve this.

First of all, for me this is not the end of the world, but there are a lot of people who prefer to play games with other keys, and think of all the lefties..
I'll keep waiting for the controller support. For me the game is ideally suited to lean back on the couch and play the game with a controller on tv

But on the other hand.. This game has been on steam for over 4 years and it should already be fixed. You can find comments from 2018 where it was said that this will be added.. now we have 2021 and the mapping for the E-key is still a mystery

Whatever. I don't want to argue, I just wanted to address it.

Same here. I play with QWE+S, W+ASD feels unnatural and cumbersome.

If wasd feel cumbersome how do you click other keys on your keyboard that are further away then ?

For example if i have my fingers on qwe and i have to bend them backwards to reach zxcv, that feels akward to me bigtime, if i have my fingers on wasd i can access both up and down with ease.

Luckily, the only directional movement key really needed in this game is W. Directions are handled by mouse and there is no reason for strafing, unlike in some other games.

I started using Q and E for strafing when I was raiding in World of Warcraft. When mostly using numeric keys in encounters, while occasionally having to strafe away very quickly, the Q and E are closer. For keys like X, C or V, I use my thumb. It's easy to reach back for Space bar whenever needed.
