Too unfair..
..after losing a few times and money. Basically you have to start from the beginning with a new character if you're out of gold and your items are broken. I find that buying or crafting an item is way too expensive. Right now I'm at level 11 without gold or items and it's nigh impossible to proceed. Have to run constantly and hit once which without weapons makes almost no damage.
Not looking good..
Is there something I'm missing? Also items break way too fast if you're surrounded.

EDIT: My suggestion is to have a very basic weapon of each category with minimum damage that is unbreakable so at least when you start again without items/money you can actually hit sometthing..

Items are unbreakable for the first 5 levels, then when you die there is a chance for them to break.

Also if the game is too difficult, you could try to change difficulty or enemies' scaling inside the options.

Hope this helps :)

I may have bumped into an "unlucky" cycle as I ended up with no weapon and no gold so I basically had just the "helper". I spent money on other items so then it took a long trivial/boring session where I was killing baddies with minimum damage (helper helped) just to make enough money for a simple weapon which I really didn't enjoy and was close to quitting..
Although I didn't notice the level 5 invincibility of items, this happened to me on level 11 as I wrote.
It's not the difficutly, I play games on normal/hard usually. It's that early on you don't earn a lot of gold to keep up with items breaking, because of course you're young and foolish and don't know what to expect..
Now I have advanced past that so gold is aplenty. But that wasn't a happy patch.

Thanks for the reply.

PS. Did you see what I posted about the castle lowering FPS btw?
