Multi-Language/Localized Versions

The developer itself, FunCom, offers this game in a broad range of languages in their online shop:

I was unable to buy it there, because the website was vastly confusing and redirected me to some places that had, seemingly, nothing to do with the longest journey...

So why does Steam not offer the same range of localized versions of this game? This is clearly not a technical issue, since the game itself is available in multiple localized versions in several places. There are even pirate versions that are multi-languge (e.g. English + German). Do you guys know a way to pressure steam into doing something about this?

Personally, I would like to have the german localization because I am playing this together with my family for some relaxation during the holidays and playing this in English would not be as relaxing to them as playing this in German. I have also seen several other discussions here about a spanish version, a french version, the original norwegian version... so there is clearly a demand for this!

Steam hat darauf leider keinen Einfluss. Wer die Vermarktungsrechte hat (also normalerweise der Publisher) entscheidet, was wo veröffentlicht wird. Deshalb gibt's z.B. auch Sacred (vom deutschen Studio Ascaron) auf Steam nur auf Englisch.

According to Wikipedia, the publisher of The Longest Journey was Empire Interactive, which are defunct since 2009... Any idea who is responsible for publishing this game on steam now?

In the Funcom website there is the chance to buy a multilanguage version of this game, Steam should put that one in Steam instead of this english only version...Hey Steam, can you hear me ? toc toc...

Usually games implement a language selector/detection during the installation process, a standard that is expected from digital distribution platforms like Steam or GOG.
The developer has made a poor decision by hard-coding the language on each regional distribution and for distribution platforms would mean to use up more resources on their servers that, according to their estimations, would not be justified.
The developers could produce a simple tool for text conversion (ie. xdelta), publish it on their website and link to it on steam/gog forums.
