Audio bug: crackle every 10 seconds
I am using Windows 7 64 bit and the game is running quite well. I had to turn of GPU scaling and override mode in the Nvidia control panel to force a 4:3 resolution, but then it looks and plays normal.

The only issue I have is that every 10 seconds orso a short crackling/snapping sound plays. It sounds like static from my speakers, but it is not. The sound disappears if I disable sound effects ingame, but that is not really desirable. I can also disable the sound effects in the main menu and turn it back on when back ingame, but that only solves it for a few screens before the crackles return.

When looking for a solution I only found this old thread: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1655116

It didn't really help solve anything though. I am hoping one of the smart people on this forum can help me out. I really want to play this game, but the sound snaps are driving me kinda insane.

did you try compatibility mode with windows xp?

Thanks for the reply. I tried it and it didn't work unfortunately.

Normally when I encounter a problem with a game I just google it and there will be a bunch of people with the same problem and a fix, so it is kind of weird that I could find almost nothing now.

yes normally thats the case, if you cant find much on it youre normally screwed unless you get lucky :p
im guessing you tried everything in that thread you linked? anyhow try this as well http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1394211 its not exactly the same issue but the fix might still work for you

When I put it in windows 98 compatibility mode and change those preference settings the game and my pc slow down to a snails pace and I have trouble even exiting the game (just like the original poster in my linked thread actually).

I might just have to suck it up and reload my game and change the SFX volume a bazillion times when playing. I also bought both Dreamfall games, so I do really want to finish this one.

that sucks. i wish the devs would patch these up to be more compatible with modern OSes but oh well. another thing you could do if thats your thing is watch a longplay on youtube. not really the same at all but if it becomes too annoying to play and you dont want to skip the game you can watch one of those

I think I will try to play it first. Watching a 7 hour movie is a bit too die-hard for me :D

Thanks a bunch for all your assistance!

Googled for Journey (PS3/PS4, 2012) sound fixes, stumbled upon this thread. =)

You might try (if you haven't fixed it yet) to lower the system audio mixer to 5.1 or stereo - maybe the game has similar audio problems as Journey has. Setting it to stereo helped, as when the system mixer was set to 7.1/5.1 - there was enormous crackling/distortion in the audio (Journey devs are working on the fix atm).

It has been a while, but if I remember correctly I didn't unfortunately. I did finish the game and just tried to ignore it as much as possible.

The problem still exists in Windows 10 :steamsad:
