How to scare a village.
Hi, I'm a "humble" new user...I wanna know how can I scare a village to get their tributes. In the 2nd tutorial it's easy, you burn some of the perimetral villages and done. But in normal games It's impossible to scare. I tried for whole games to scare a single village with no luck.
So, how can I "capture" a village?

You have to be patient. Try to attack the town center again and again (without destroying it) and your symbol will appear.

This. It takes time. It's all about the amount of damage you do. Once you start trading tributes though it gets harder and harder to keep the town sicne you dont have time to do more damage than enough to take over the town.

A good tactic is to destroy some of the buildings and severely weaken the town centre, then allow it to be rebuilt and attack again until returned to a weakened state. The townsfolk will soon only be too willing to pay tribute!

If possible, keep out of range of any Archers while torching the centre as, when the town falls to our rule, the place will have instant protection against marauding Dragons. Archers take a while to be created so the more we have in our villages and towns when they succumb to our will, the better.

I think you can only scare if there are >1 dragons.

torching the town center is one way to go, but it's risky as you can accidentally kill the center ruining your progress. The best strategy, imho, is to kill any surrounding building that is not a market.

Markets increase the value of the carts leaving the town, so you want to leave those. Taverns will spawn robbers, so you absolutley want to kill those, and the other building (the brown residenial buildings) are just wasted space that could be markets, so burn them.

It shouldn't take too long for the town to start fearing you.

This guy has it 100% correct!

You can only get villages to pay tribute if there are more than one dragon on the map. Once you have that part covered, it's pretty easy, just destroy every part of the town except for the town hall. Then, precede to return every once in a while to show them who's boss, which also makes sure that other dragons don't do more dmg than you, so they continue paying you instead of someone else

Yeah was reminded last night. You can't tribute towns in Co-Op.

You can also accomplish the scare by not killing any buildings -- just breathe on them to reduce their HP, but don't kill them. Then repeat after they've healed a bit. Takes a bit more finesse, but this way you can ensure the town's growth is not stunted.

Of course, if you see a Thieves' Guild, burn away!
