doesn't look good to me, and no way i'm buying this game on Epic
actually if the movement stays the same as it was when i was beta testing it, then i'm still not getting the game regardless. i like my sharks to move like sharks, not helicoptors hovering through the water
that's not what i'm meaning.
when i had a key and was testing to the game, the shark had Depth assets and moved like Depth sharks, aka it swung its tail back and forth to move, and when strafing side to side the tail lagged behind the body in a curve realisitcally
towards the end before they moved to Epic and revoked all steam keys of those of us testing, the shark was completely stiff and straight. The body did not move. if you strafed left or right, the shark kept its body straight and just hovered left or right. There was no realistic bending of the body as it moved back or forth or backwards, it stayed completely straight
i am just hoping when the game actually releases that they update that movement and make it more realistic, with the body actually BENDING as it moves left / right / backwards, rather than just being a stiff model that hovers around in the water like a helicoptor
since i only had access to a incomplete version of the game, i'm hoping it changes, but also know they don't care about realism and want the 'cool' aspect, so i'm also worried it's going to just stay that way.
and if it stays, i'm not buying it. It really bothered me having my shark go from a realistically moving shark to becoming basically a T pose model hovering around in the water. It felt like development took a huuge step backwards when they made that change
i did provide feedback on that to them, but not long after they revoked all steam keys so i have no idea if they will do anything about it
When I first tested the game, it used Depth assets and the shark felt like a real shark
They changed from depth assets, and the shark moved like a helicopter after the change
It did not bend it's body to move left or right, it stayed completely stiff and just hovered left or right without bending at all, like how a helicoptor moves
Changing from depth assets made the movement WORSE, which is why I am worried.
I am hoping they changed it again since I lost my key but I do not know because trailers do not show it
Depth's sharks do not move like real sharks, neither does Maneater's shark. Both games allow the playable shark to evolve past the norm of what sharks actually do in real life, this changing how the in-games sharks move from the real ones. For instance, moving backwards, the thrust/speed boost, tail whipping, etc. Maneater just takes it a bit further.
BUT out of curiosity, when and where did you "playtest" the game, as for my knowledge nobody tested the game before the changes were made and no keys have went out to alpha/beta testers. So this is all very interesting, perhaps I'll ask the team or Alex for a key over Twitter since they have been quick to answer my questions so far.
So far as we've seen, Maneater's water physics which hold the animals, humans and objects is much more advanced and polished than Depth's. This is likely due to the care and budget put into Maneater though. As bigger production, more manpower and more time could be afforded. As far as the shark being able to move at all directions, the devs already made it clear that the shark is more of a hero and not an ordinary shark, the later involvements have things like the shark having exterior bone plates, luminescents, etc.
Anyway, you probably shouldn't expect any game to have realistic shark/auquatic movements, if you did I would expect you to say Jaws Unleashed, not Depth.
i got a key from their community manager back when it was still coming to steam, before the Epic change over. They did not hand them out to random people, or people that asked, or fancy big name youtubers. they only gave out a very small handful of them.
if you want proof, i can't provide much, because them removing my key removed my game. I had around 120 hours in it. here's a post from 2019 with someone asking why i owned the game if you need any sort of proof that i'm not lying i DID test it

as far as i know, they're not giving keys to anyone now, and took away all keys that were given out before, and probably won't give out keys to anyone now, not even those of us that tested for them before the switch to Epic. after all, i tested 120 hours bug hunting and got my key taken away without a word about it from them
also mutations and power ups have nothing to do with how a shark moves. A shark swings its tail back and forth to swim, and its body will CURVE when it goes left or right. It used to be that wan in Maneater. When i last played the game, after the changes, the shark did not curve left or right. It just hovered completely straight left or right without bending.
i HOPE they fix it for release. I really do.
i really enjoyed the game while i had the very early alpha version to play, and i think it's going to be really fun
i just hope what feedback i did give them before they took away steam keys was taken into consideration, is all

Here are some things I noticed:
1. The highly detailed shark model and npc animals, leagues better than Depth's
2. The physics are semi-correct - water is correct but shark seems too fast and too light for my liking. Maybe I just do not agree with the game speed though, it's faster than Depth. I know the shark is supposed to be a hero shark but it looks a bit too fast
3. Lighting, reflections and shadowing has much been improved
I wonder if there is an option to turn off the hud and parts of it like enemy names and such. I'm also wondering if there will be a photo-mode.
