Would rather hear the Devs words tho, accompanied by an explanation if possible.
Personally, I don't really think there is much of a question that its coming to Early Access.
Whether or not it will be ready to enter EA in November is a very different question.
Games get delayed, even EA ones. They might not be finished, but devs have learnt that releasing completely broken games, even into EA, can irreparably damage a games reputation.
To be honest though, I'm not really sure what the creator of IndieDB has to do with it, nor why he would be leaking that kind of information so freely.
Yeah, just look at ARK, Saurian and The Isle lol... There are games like Subnautica tho that did a good job still.
Just what I was thinking right now, it's quite weird...
The project is undergoing a few scheduling changes right now that are the result of some recent negotations with a publisher.
I can't really say much more about that until everything is set in stone.
If that stuff does pan out, It's looking like we *may* be skipping the early access route in favor of a later, but feature complete launch. In other words - you guys will have to wait a bit longer to play it, but it's going to be a *lot* more polished when it launches.
When everything has been confirmed I will be making an announcement with details on what all of this means, but tldr - things are looking pretty good for Maneater right now, and if we can all exercise abit of patience there's a good chance we'll wind up with something special :)
Perfectly understandable tho, I'll wait as patiently as possible for future news, I wouldn't mind at all any reschedules in favour of polishing.
Perfection and quality must not be rushed!
Just a shame about the way this information got out before a proper announcement was ready. Kinda more concerned about that than a Q4 2018 release.
(Though I would say part of the point of Early Access is to improve and shape a game when its still in the main development phase, rather than just to fund its development. Skipping EA also means skipping that kind of early feedback)
(EA is a perfect double edged sword :/)
Community feedback is certainly important to us, and I don't think going through Early Access is the only way to take community feedback on board. If we do skip early access it won't mean we suddenly stop listening to community feedback. Simply that we won't ask for money before we feel the game is "ready". Launching a game is actually only the start, as I'm sure you know :)
Especially in a single player game, as opposed to a more dynamic and flexible multiplayer one.
DiRT Rally was a pretty big EA success story which I ended up reasonably involved in, having even earlier access to closed builds (Funny to think of Early Access in Early Access, but that's how it is. Always various builds after al).
The v2 handling model wasn't part of that games EA roadmap, nor was a complete rebuild of the games FFB, but both came about because of strong feedback, being implemented about... 40% of the way through EA.
It was a pretty major overhaul though, and would not have been possible had it been suggested post-launch, when the priority had to shift towards bug-fixing and the assossiated post-launch support budget, so whilst there are plenty of horror stories, I do believe in the potential of EA done right.
You folks are in charge of course. Just offering some considered outside thoughts of my own into that mix.
Believe me, I'm very sympathetic to the realities of game development and the sacrafices that often have to be made in the process, especially in a current climate where a grumpy Youtuber can spout a lot of nonsense about those realities in total ignroance and people take their word for it.
I have hopes it will release around those dates ;^;
Gotta say tho, Devs could like, be a bit more transparent about what's going on?
Are they delaying the game for a reason/s?
Are they not releasing any gameplay/(more)screenshots for a reason/s?
Or am I just missing something?
