Huge Robot Boss

Okay this is a stupid question but how do you undo the screws on the chapter 9 boss (evidently called the Killbot 3000). I can dodge the attacks but that won't get me anywhere if none of the buttons I press actually do anything to the screws. I had the animation play exactly once, and I thought it was for doing the pick up input (down+a) but I haven't been able to repeat it since.

It's the first time I came back to this game in a while so it may have come up before, but I can't seem to get it to work.

EDIT: Welp, I got it now. Apparently it's run+up to interact with them. This probably isn't the first time that this input was used, but again, it had been a while, and if there's one thing that has been a hindrance with me in this game, it's that it tells you the inputs to do things like pick up items, or interacting like this, exactly once and doesn't have it printed anywhere else. Having a dedicated interact button (maybe in place of binoculars since I never find myself using those?), or having the combo inputs in the controls menu, would make this a lot less of an issue. But then this game has never been a primary focus for me, so it could be more of a me problem.
