Keep failing mission, pls help

I am in mission which starts off with a handler from the agency giving me a short briefing. Avery Cobin states, "Good afternoon. Unfortunately, Mr. Ward has prevailed in the competition between you." Am not sure why I lost when there is no indicator as to how much money I have to attain to beat the guy. Appreciate it if someone can give tips on how to pass this mission. Thanks!
