ROTK 11 question
I got the english version of ROTK without the power up kit and have a couple of questions.

- What does the powerup kit add to the game?
- Since I have the english version is the translation file helpful to those that have the japanese version?
- I understand that the powerup kit hasn't been translated but the ROTK 11 part has. Why wouldn't KOEI include the english translation for that piece?

The PUK adds:
- Upgradeable versions of buildings (markets, farms, barracks', smiths, and stables now have three levels each) to make them more efficient and effective
- New buildings available which offer various efficiencies
- A new tech-web which can be used to first research, then improve an officer's stats, change their skill, or improve their weapon aptitudes (C to B, B to A)
- A new line of 4 technology upgrades to spend your TP on based around administrative efficiency
- A Harder difficulty level where the AI is all around more aggressive
- A series of mini scenarios with limited timeframes and resources to achieve some kind of objective (as in usually around 180 days/18 turns)
- Some new campaign scenario setups
- I believe some extra (very peripheral) generals, and maybe a few stat tweaks here and there (very minor)
- More events during campaign play
- An edit tool for changing just about anything you can think of about any officer, city, port, gate, unit, etc. at almost any time (this could be used to cheat of course, but also just to play around with)
- Possibly a few other minor improvements

I'm uncertain, but I don't believe the basegame files of the English version are transferrable to the PUK.
Happily, there are a few translation patches for the PUK. They are by no means perfect and in a few areas are annoyingly lacking, but overall it makes the game playable if you are already familiar with even just the base version. Of course, others may say this is unplayable for them, so who knows?

I don't believe there is an official answer to this question. It seems that Koei uploaded these games to Steam in an attempt to cash in on some nostalgia and doesn't seem to care about selling RTK games to the English market here. Coupled with this is that this game is now over 10 years old and therefore I doubt they will put in the effort to make it serviceable to a new audience. It likely will fall to the playerbase to do something about this if anything is to be done at all.

Having played the PUK, I would find it extremely difficult to go back to playing without it. It really does expand on so many different areas, most notably the Harder difficulty level I would say. If you're enjoying the base-game, I would highly recommend the PUK.

Great answer, One Sun Mirror, thank you.

I have read about a lot of crashing. I have yet to experience this with the base game. Is this game more unstable?

I haven't had it crash once.
In the non-Steam version of the PUK game, there is an error which unfortunately stops it working on Windows 10, but there is no such error with this Steam version (I play on Windows 10 and it runs fine).
