Is there an English Translation Patch?
I have looked online and found previous translation patches but were for the old previously signed files of windows 7 and lower. So I have just recently bought ROTK 11 w PUK so I can play without having to manually turn off stuff and sign files.

Is there an English Translation Patch?

Yes, there is! However, it is not a "complete" patch, though it does make the game playable. Almost everything needed for gameplay is at least somewhat translated, and if you know the game/are willing to play around and learn by doing, you'll soon work things out.

I'm using Cao Shang's Universal English patch, although I tested the one here and some of the chosen words are different, though this is a curiosity rather than a criticism. All you have to do is:

1. Download here[kongming.net] the patch you desire. I can recommend Cao Shang's Universal English patch.
2. Extract the files from within the .zip folder
3. Open the program files for this game. An easy way to access these is to right-click the game on steam, open Properties, then click the Local Files tab, then the Browse Local Files button at the top. A window of the files should open up.
4. In this window, open the file named "media".
5. Insert the files from the patch you dowloaded earlier into here. They should be named the same as some of these files here. Replace files where necessary. NOTE: You can always reinstall the game to reset it to its untranslated state if something goes wrong.
6. Launch the game. The opening menus are not in English, but the internal stuff in the game is.

Note: If something appears to be untranslated, look down the bottom of the screen. Sometimes there is a description there of what the button you're mousing over does which is translated into English.

Let me know how you go.
So when I try to open up the game, it closes automatically. I have tried the Cao Shang universal patch previously before you had given the help, do you know if I have to enable anything like the secdrv? Or do I have to enable some languages to be seen?
Whenever I play the game some letters are ???????? instead of the words exactly.
Would I need to enable some languages?
Do I have to sign the secdrv file?
Do I have to disable signature signing?
Thanks for helping man
If you are using Windows 10, there is no secdrv to enable. The Steam version of the game doesn't require it though and you shouldn't need to do anything with it.

Something to try might be adding Japanese to your system. The way you can do this is at the very bottom of your screen (on the Windows Task Bar) on the right you'll see ENG (if you're using English, something else if you're using another language). Click this and open Language Preferences. You should be able to scroll down to where it says "Add a Language". Click this, find Japanese and install it. NOTE: This will not remove your default language, it's just an addition that means your system can read Japanese.

Hopefully that should allow the game to be translated. Let me know if it works or if we need to try something else.

Hi, i just bought this game 2 days ago, expecting the translation to work, however, when i opened up the Cao Shang San11PK.exe, it keeps crashing. Even i tried to open through SAN11WPK, it also crashes.

One Sun Mirror, i have been following your steps by adding Japanese language pack, but i still cant run the game.

Any ideas? im using windows 10
Zzzz, you shouldn't be using the .exe file in the patch to start the game, it should start by pressing play as you normally would to start any game from Steam.

Have you opened the .zip folder for the patch download and copied the contents into the media folder of the game?

You don't install this patch in the way you would have before, the .exe file apparently isn't compatible with Windows 10.

Hi One Sun Mirror,

I have tried your method by not using .exe file, but only copied the content of the media into my RTK11 folder.

It did start, however, it is barely translated... it wasnt like how the kongming.net depict on their websites. The scenario stories are in english (poorly), but the city options were not.

Is this what i am supposed to get? or did i miss steps in doing the patch?

thanks

The English translation patch in kongming.net is for "Romance of The Three Kingdom XI + PUK JP Retail version".

Some of the translation is in the .exe file, and some is in scenario/asset file.

And because steam version .exe is different than that retail version .exe, then the .exe translation become incompatible.
The scenario/asset file is the same, that's why the scenario stories are in english.....
The English is poorly translated because of the limitation of the number of character shown in every textbox, and the fact that 1 Japanese Kanji/Kana can contain 2 or more English letter. So to make it fit the box, they must put it that way.....

So, to answer your question, that's more or less what you get......

This is not a perfect translation by any means. As I mentioned before and Kaimu has expanded upon, this means some parts of the game are only partially or badly translated. The story elements of the game are not really translated at all well. The names are recognisable, the skills, abilities, city options, etc. are passable enough to play. A few menus (including the main menu) is not translated, but if you mouse over these, you'll often see that right at the bottom of the screen is a little English descriptor as to what each button does.

This patch will not give you a perfectly translated experience. It will give you enough to play the game if you're willing to tinker around with it, but that's about it. If you aren't happy with that level of translation, there's not much that can be done unfortunately.

Hi One Sun Mirror,

Thanks for clarifying and explaining it, truly appreciated it. Thanks a lot man. I will just play with what is available.
Happy to help. Have you played this game before? Or are you just learning it?

I have played the non PUK version and the PUK version many times, but that was couple of years ago. Recently, after the released the Three Kingdom: The Last Warlord, i suddenly feel like going back. I still remember most of the critical play, but it is still more comfortable if 90% is translated. =D
It's not working anymore using caoshang patch.

Hi All,

(Long post)

Im'a Necro this thread.

So there is a bit more help for this game in terms of more English in the game, and from something I am working on. I will be posting some google doc files in the next 48 hours to this thread for you all to get if you like.

They will contain:
More translations: They are not mine - If you are itching and want to search online for them - "Nikhi Rath's" translations. What they will do is still (ugh) NOT translate the game menus (more on that in a bit) but it will "add too" Cao Shangs translations to (and I quote from the Nikhi read me) - """This effectively translates the scenario and force descriptions of all scenarios common to RTK Eng version & RTK ♥♥♥/CHI PUK version."""

So yes, you can use these AND Cao change universal translations.

NEXT:
I am making a LOT of screenshots (SS) from the English retail version of the "normal" non PUK version with some mark ups on the SS. These will certainly show the ENGLISH buttons and menus. I'm trying to get every image with the exception of perhaps some of the combat tactics, however I am getting some of them and the combat strategies. City views, debates...new scenario choices, new character options, even launcher settings...as many as I can. So you can refer to these to know what is what for selecting. Really, unless you know, there is no way you will know you are "Soliciting Surrender" of an enemy force. Sure, I know that the bottom of the screen says sometimes what the feature does, I nice PDF of actual screenshots may be helpful.

NEXT:
I'll include the English manual. This also will be for the normal non-PUK game but it is quite extensive with many images. For those who do not know, seriously, they are the same game just PUK has more scenarios and some more buildings which are described elsewhere online.

NEXT:
I have a save file that has several OP'd created characters that you can use so you have 15 characters with English names. I may add more as well. The file actually had like 40 officers, I made 3 officers for each critical ability, 3 Fame, 3 Wealth, 3 Food, 3 Transport etc. Again they are OP, and you can edit as you need in PUK, but this may save you some time. Not sure why only 15 appeared in menu when I played the Steam game and not all my created characters. Perhaps this version didn't acknowledge the file's user play time achievements (doing tutorials and winning certain certain scenarios, like Rise of Heroes in less than 10 years, unlocks stuff, mainly officers and officer character models). So the file "may" expand for more officers as you play the game. That said, you can still create your own in game, but...you MUST, use the options that allow computer generated characters first. This is only option that fills in Chinese typed characters which is required to save new officer. Once created you can adjust anything anyway. However it is handy to have some English typed names to find some favorites while playing...which of course you can still edit to your specs, except the name.

NEXT:
I'll need guidance on this in terms of forum rules. I'll make a Google file for the ENGLISH movies. You simply copy paste them to your movie folder on your installation and you will have the scenario movies play but in English language and subtitles....again only for the 9-12 non-puk scenarios...still that's pretty cool. If this is against forum rules then I will not post the link here. (but ya know, you will know how to get them)

NEXT:
LAST but not least, the San11PUK "Editor" - it is in Chinese however I will give instructions on how to use it to generate the location/coordinates on the map of the locations of the Shrines and Relics (S/R)...this is a fun feature. I promise you, unless you have been using the editor, you will never find any of them. They are all in stupid locations that your officers never travel to. Plus you may need to wander next to the square of the S/R 3 times for it to appear. While a cool feature, without not knowing where they are, it was really a wasted feature. That being said, the editor will show you, on a scenario by scenario basis where they are all at so you can go find them.

OK, sorry if this is wayyyyyy too much effort, but I do so love Romance 11, and #14 appears to only be #11Lite.

Thanks all, more to follow soon,

Reel

Here is the google drive link for the translations - extract and then read the main read me first.
