You must be Blind Ghost then! Your video was good, I watched it too :-)
It's nice to see there's still some around who care for these old games.
Can't believe it's 20 years old already...
Looking forward to another video from you, or if not, let me know what you think here once you get to try it out!
I have gotten around to trying it out and it looks very good so far to me! I haven't played a lot but I can already tell you did a lot and I'm super grateful. I spread your work around a little in my circles.
Heyo! Made a small update video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcBjBtioYN4 I feel like being linked on TuanDragons Blog I'm obligated to also post an update.
Again thank you and TuanDragon for everything you've done for the community
I have been getting crashes with the translation for Cao Cao's Qing Elite (when he gets the Qing Elite units from Pu Yang) event during the 189 scenario.

I watched some of your stream, it was entertaining, and it's nice to get your perspective on things in the translation as you seem to know the game and the book so you can point out problems others would not see.
I took some notes of things to fix next patch, like the Dong Zhou typo.
That's from the official translation, who would have thought :D
Perhaps you already figured this out by now, but I wanted to let you know you can use Enter instead of clicking to progress text boxes. You can hold it to skip more quickly.
Oh and right clicking makes a unit wait in battle and makes you return home on the map, a bit faster than clicking the button.
Beta 1.1 - 24.09.2024
Improved AutoBio generation for children (Thanks Motrini)
Fixed Cao Cao Qing event crash in 189 Scenario (Thanks Aithere)
Some minor improvements

wonder if these are meant to happen or just a bug
There is no danger from this file, but since it's unknown (only a few people worldwide have used this file, maybe nobody with Norton antivirus other than you), and it contains code to read your inputs (of course it does, it's a game) and has been modified, it can get flagged as some unknown possibly dangerous file.
On VirusTotal it gets flagged only by 3 out of 72 and also just some generic unknown possible threat

thank you,I have submitted it to Norton so hopefully they can change it
Anything I am missing?
I unfortunately forgot mentioning this in my video, but launching through steam still shows the chinese launcher first, where you need to press the top button to start the actual game, which should then be in english.
If for some reason this is not the case you can launch San10WPK.exe directly too and that should take you straight into the english patched game without the launcher.
If it still doesn't work, something may have overwritten the english patch files (changing language of the game would do this for example, or updating it, or verifying files), I'd just try extracting the patch into the game directory again.
Note: BGMs also outright don't play though sound effects run just fine. Just putting it out there even if it's likely an unrelated issue.

I believe it's because the game uses old windows media player apis that don't exist for steam deck.
As for the text, I only know an issue like that if the font file isn't installed (FONTB.S10 file in the patch archive), since the english patch uses custom letters, without that file it doesn't match up and you get a lot of gibberish. You can check if that's installed, but if it is, I don't know what else to try. Might be another steam deck / linux issue.
I assume you checked that it's chinese and not japanese (not sure if that could lead to such an issue even but just in case)
Thanks, you were definitely on to something. Turns out the SteamOS is case sensitive, hence the font files from the game (FontB.s10 and every files inside msg folder) were not immediately overwritten by the all-caps ones from the patch (FONTB.S10) upon extraction. Renaming everything sorted it out.
Still sucks nothing can be done about the music since it's a huge part of the nostalgia. Count your blessings I guess!
