Then MS Store seems like a fail, if you can't play with xbox players or steam players then what is the point of buying this on MS Store?

If you already have it on Xbox, and get a free copy of it on the windows store, then why not play it there? Now, that's for the base game; if you want to play online, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the pc community will be on Steam. For me personally, I don't play online, so the lack of online opponants wouldn't bother me in the slightest, but for someone else who wants those online features, then Steam woud probably be better. If you're choosing a platform to buy it from, and aren't getting a free copy, then I would definitely go for the Steam version.

This makes no sense to me:
If you luanch it via steam or via ms store.. you should see the same player base because steam is not a hosting service and either is MS Store.. The dev/pubishers host their own servers.

Some games still do this. COD is one example.

It's not a UWP or a Play Anywhere game so no, we don't get it for free. I own it on Xbox & the MS store version says I don't own it. Also, if the MS store version is the same as the Steam version cross play with Xbox would be impossible because the PC version is an earlier build of the game.
