Disable the in-game steam overlay and disable cloud syncing. I believe it's these two specifically, because after disabling both after a while, I decided to re-enable cloud syncing, and it worked well without crashes, until today. The game randomly crashed on me with the cloud syncing on, and it's mainly when I'm in the middle of a multiverse match. It's the same way with Mortal Kombat 11. I would suggest verifying game files and then doing these two things. It has heavily improved my experience.
How does one do this?
Right click the game, click properties. You'll notice that there's an option under the "General" tab that says, "Enable Steam Overlay". It's probably already checked, so un-check it. Then go over to the updates tab. You'll see a box that's checked that says, "Enable Steam Cloud Synchronization for Injustice 2". Un-check it and then you should be good to go.
