Turn off stats in private match??

Is it possible to play private matches and not have gear stats active?? We tried a match between each other, but since my Cap'n Cold is lvl 18, I felt like I had too much of an advantage. Granted, the game turned her Poison Ivy to lvl 18, but I couldn't tell if my stats gave me an advantage, or if I was just being cheap.

Yes you can. Press x or square in stage selection and then lb or l1 (depending on the controller)
