difference with HD version?
So there's the non HD version that requires the base game and the HD version that doesn't. Besides the higher definition, what is the difference?

I mean, i'd like to start from scratch, so does the HD version (since its standalone) only let you play the dlc? i'm confused

There's no difference. It's simply a standalone package for those who don't have the base game yet. Existing owners will receive the HD engine upgrade for free and can purchase the DLC separately.

Since Two Worlds II is several years old and has been featured in countless bundles by now (including a free giveaway at some point), I'm pretty sure the cheaper option is to look for the original version and get the DLC when it's released.

...you can get the base game for as cheap as $5 right now with a simple google search.

On the release of the first DLC (Call of the Tenebrae) all Two Worlds II versions will be updated with achievements, HD Interface and support of new light, texture and LOD features.
