Not sure if this game will support a steering wheel. I'm pretty sure RIDE 2 didn't, but these are different devs.
IMO, playing with a wheel would feel kind of weird, even if you would have more accurate controls than a controller. Bikes don't steer, they lean (at least at speed).
I'm sure 3rd party software like Xpadder would solve your problem if the game doesn't support it natively.

Hi guys.
The game does not support steering wheels at the moment. We understand that it can be frustrating for some players to not being able to play with their steering wheels - but we prefer to focus our efforts on fixing technical issues and controller support. We are sorry for the inconvenience and we hope you'll understand the situation.

@Demer Hi, yes it is possible if you are willing to get your hands a little dirty installing 3rd-party tools.

However, steering wheels are frowned upon by the majority of this somewhat diverse community, so make sure you have your leathers on!
If you are still interested in fiddling around to get things working, then go ahead and use the search function :P to read my guides, but I'm not going to link them until I'm sure they might not overwhealm anyone. Apparently some players want their PC like a console where 'it just works', so please understand help is available but you might have to work for it.

@BigbenCM Good to hear you're working on controller support. In case you missed it, I mentioned in another thread suggesting that you check out the Logitech SDK. I've used it myself, I think it would be ideal and will support *any* controller without additional configuring. It also has excellent force-feedback capabilities, but I understand if you are saving such things for the future.
Also, please hide the mouse pointer! It's a one-liner in code, though correct implementations should keep track locally if the pointer is visible (rather than asking the OS), plus if it should be visible (is the app in focus, is the user in a menu...).
Sorry if my comments are at all patronising, that is not my intention. I absolutely love your efforts, today I will do a lap without falling for sure :D

I think more people should get their hands on a cheap wheel and give it a go. It's just like tilting a bike when clamped to a similar range, people can lean if they like ;)

Indeed each to their own is the real opinion, I was just saying it's banter ammo so have a thick skin when some might rofl at the concept. Though it also goes over their head having a thumstick perform the same task is equally silly.

Yeah I understand it wasn't a 'serious' suggestion as such. It was just something I wanted to say :steamhappy:

Yes, using a wheel is the closest to using handle bars, rotating slightly on an axis.
Folk that frown apon this abviously have no wheel or they don't know what their talking about.

Wheel support for the win!

Imagine playing Isle of Man TT on a high-end wheel with full force feedback implemented! That's the dream my friends.

I mean logically racing game = racing wheel, it makes perfect sense to me. Controllers are made for casual games so you can play reclining on your sofa.
