PSA: Distracting shot can target Leif.

If you're going to open the fight while recruiting Leif with distracting shot, do make sure to use the move to go to the right... I was just forced to kill him after turning him hostile, failing the quest.

Additional tip for ranged: since the tile is always on a river, you can exit the tile, cross the river and re-enter it. The enemies will move to the closest shallow water to you, but not enter the river, allowing to kill them at your leisure provided you can shoot far enough.

Just initiate the fight by shotting them from afar. You don't need to trigger the dialogue first.

That's definitely a much better idea, never even considered it. I knew dash and distracting shot would be enough to completely avoid damage, didn't think about collateral damage though.
