A single dad should be able to make up his own mind.
From what I have heard, the game gets a major update about a year apart. The game is very niche, if you like hard, turn based games, it might be for you. But always check on YouTube to be sure. I have not even left the starting village yet. I just liked that it reminds me of a comic I am reading. It says early access and in development, but it feels like a proper game for me, but each for their own I guess.
played thru every major update since release and, unless youre super into that whole "do the same excact same grind with a slightly different build" thing, i recomend waiting. it will probably be good one day but atm its just do copy paste quests in copy paste dungeons for no other reason that to be able to do the next tier of copy paste. exploration is very boring. no engaging story to make it interesting. farming loot is basically just farming trash to haul back to sell and then buy something thats not trash.
Yes, its good right now, challening, intense, good caravan mechanics( moving player base) and a lot of interesting builds and items

it's a slow paced survival adventure so it's like Darksouls of Zelda platformer
Game's got enough <diverse> content and mechanics to entertain for 50+ hours. I recently bought the game, played it for 100+, and in my eyes, even if they halted development entirely, albeit sad and disappointed, I'd have gotten my money out of it. If ever such a day comes, hopefully they'd at least properly leave it open to modding.

Important tip though, make sure not to play on "permadeath" mode if you want to properly learn the game (even if you're very skilled at these kinds of games). Permadeath is only for your 3rd+ playthrough when you already know all the mechanics inside out, skill interactions, quests, events, bosses etc. and nothing can take you by surprise, because otherwise you'll devolve into a very risk-averse playstyle and won't enjoy the game nearly as much. Failure and death serve as good teachers in this game.
Either refund in 2 hours or Play for 50h+

Really fun unless you just don't like the core concept of doing the same cycle of "prepare for dungeon, run through dungeon, turn loot into cash, invest cash into upgrades, find new dungeon". Though there is some content outside of running contracts / dungeons, it's absolutely the core gameplay loop
