about dodge and block
If an enemy attacks my character lets say i wasnt able to dodge the attack initially, do i take damage or am i still able block the incoming attack fro second chance. Having both dodge and block does anything? Or the game consider the highest one.

Block and dodge work together. During attack dodge comes first and can turn attack into miss or fumble. If you haven't managed to change attack into a miss by dodging, you'll have chance to block it.

What Larix said. They actually work well together, you can dodge an attack by removing some of its dmg and block the rest of it.

Just to be clear :
Dodge, if successful, will turn a fumble into a miss or a normal hit into a fumble, then you can block it. It will not turn a normal hit into a miss directly.

And this is why Stagger, Damage Reduction, More Fumbles to enemies, blocking power, block chance on Gears, consumables like net, oil, smoke bomb, flame flask, war cry, caltrops, claw traps, and most Athletics skills if used correctly will make Light armor livable without losing a limb in case you fail a dodge. Crit Avoidance also helps a bit for high accuracy enemies better if paired with Ever Vigilant (Heavy users should have it since their gear always has high crit Avoidance making Crits do smaller crit damage).

Dodging and blocking also work well together as a dodged attack deals half damage and blocking reduces your blockpower by the damage your hp would have taken. Blockpower essentially works as a secondary hp bar which partially regenerates each round.
