Spiders = Dragons?

I was just playing as the Dwarf character Jorgrim. I got up to level 5, and I was hacking my way through groups of 3-4 bandits without taking a scratch.

Then I saw a large spider. How hard could it be. I am at full health, lots of buffs, so I attack.

3 turns later I am dead. My armor piercing dwarven axe did at most 1-2 damage per hit, while the "spider" was hitting me for 30+ each time.

So I am wondering if they introduced dragons to the game and just accidentally gave it the spider model.

So, is it Spiders = Dragons, or Spiders = Bull.♥♥♥♥♥?

No, they're just lvl 12 and you were lvl 5.

There's always a bigger fish. Or in this case spider.

Don't fight spiders until you're level 15+. They're strong.

Crawlers are extremely damage resistant. Their abilities description mentions that, basically their whole gimmick is having a squishy health pool but very durable regenerating carapace. The game should have mentioned they're very dangerous when inspecting them.

Level 5 is too early to fight them, ideally you need to be level 10+ and have a weapon with solid armor piercing/armor damage to outdamage their regeneration.

Yeah, you should at least open the inspection screen before trying to baldly attack them.

I could easily list 100 rpg where spiders are one small step in difficulty above rats and bats.

Not a bad change, just unexpected.

Giant spiders though, that often occupy camps with the bodies of the former inhabitants still around?

Try crushing damage type. Spiders has 40% damage resistance of all physical types except crushing. Magic also works well against them.
