I found the journal page 1/4 in the first bookcase on the right but can't find any clues in the next room. No other bookcase are highlighted when I press ALT, I can't use examine Surroundings, I clicked every square and nothing ... Is it bugged ?

It's quite possible that it resolved the issue you were having with the quest.

I don't know if it applies to older loads but it didn't fix it for me

I examined the basement room surgical slab and grabbed the other notes and verren piped up with some stuff about the guy we were after.

you have to read the journal entry check the table and alchemy set speak to varren then check the bookcase.. it is not bugged just tricky
