Everything about helping Kromm keep the Brewery
So I played through this questline a few times now and I made a save to record different outcomes and their results.

So in case you don't know, the way to save the brewery from Odar is unlocked if you speak to the Carpenter who doesn't really like Odar (the elder).
You have to ask him about Dwar, but he will be tight lipped. So you can do one of two things:
1 - Go fetch a plane for him
2 - Pay him 100 gold.

If you already found the plane and gave it to him earlier he rewards you with mead and some coin (less than 100)
So it's better to keep the plane until you have to speak with him, unless you REALLY need mead for some reason.

After that you go to the brewery, talk to the guards, talk to Kromm, clear out the bandits from a nearby outpost, then have to accuse Odar of lying where you will have two choices:

There's multiple variations on the dialogue, but there's only two different outcomes.

Outcome 1 - You ask Odar to leave the brewery alone - This gives you a -600 reputation with Osbrook
Outcome 2 - You ask Odar for a 500 gold bribe to keep your mouth shut and you get a -400 reputation with Osbrook

Chosing option 1 will give you a free barrel of beer when you speak with Kromm the next time (the Owner of the brewery)
You can also buy Barrels of beer for 250 gold that are worth 500 gold at the Mannshire inn and a bit over 400 in Osbrook. Pricing does change with reputation ofc. If you choose this option Kromm will have 2 barrels in stock.

Chosing otpion 2 will only give you the 500 gold which technically is more money up front, however Kromm will only have 1 barrel in stock. (Update - It might go up to 2 in stock later on if you wait, I didn't test his stock refresh)

Both paths lead you to a reputation loss with the entire town which is odd, since some people don't like him already and you have proof of him committing crimes, but I assume there's going to be more choices added in the future, including turning him in to the magistrate and possibly having the Carpenter actually become the new elder as foreshadowed by his dialogue when you ask the Carpenter - 'If not Odar, then who?'

If reputation with Osbrook is essential to you, then you should just side with Odar.

If you talk to the Carpenter after finishing everything he will explain why Odar is accepted as he is, and in general it's not ideal for the player to see himself as a savior, he is a mercenary.

Yeah your rep will go down if you as a mercenary betray your employer, doesnt matter who is right.

I suppose, but then again he's literally a criminal.

I don't quite understand why you get a less severe reputation penalty for demanding gold for your silence though.

I assume the reputation loss comes from Kromm bad-mouthing you to the people, and he's more annoyed with you if you don't let him get his brewery eventually, whereas if you take the bribe you basically let him try again.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense.

You can't sell two keg's at once so fk kromm :)
Berserkr Aug 19, 2022 @ 4:29pm
Those two kegs basically pay for a full round trip on the new caravan guy just sell them to the first two Inn's you come to I love them.

I always take the 500, and Kromm has 2 barrels each time.
Berserkr Aug 19, 2022 @ 6:37pm
It's 400 gold profit that's like a full round trip on the cart lol

Yeah I think OP was wrong there. Take the money and don't be a hero!

I tested it, he had only 1 barrel immediately for purchase. He might restock up to 2 later, not sure about that, I didn't wait an extra couple of days.

Just store it in a container and sell it the next time you're in the area.

Just toss them on the ground in front of any Inn and when they have 450-500g on coin reset grab it go inside and sell it you don't have to store them in any box, he always has 2 and he had 2 the first time he sold to me, once I saw it was about 400g profit for 2 sales to other Inn's there was no doubt that I made the right choice and Odar and his 500 rep can sit on a rusty nail and rotate lol

Did you take the bribe and instantly checked his inventory? Because when I did he had only 1 barrel.
I wonder if maybe you guys just waited long enough for him to restock, at which point he gets 2 again.
It's weird for there to be a discrepency otherwise, but I don't have a save file anymore to test it again.

he had 2 when I told him the bandits were dead... BEFORE I accused the elder of lying.
