Is the backpack a joke item?

12 extra slots in exchange for the cloak slot is clearly not worth it.

I actually think it's a pretty good item, but only for the beginning of the game (the problem, is that it's available in the mid-late part of the current game). The starting cloak gives very small benefits, even if you enchant. Early in the game, I always need more space for splints, bandages, alcohol (for pain), herbs, etc. That's a lot more important than the small benefit the cloak gives. Once I have some high-end leather or chainmail armor, I only carry one of each of those. After I have a full set of chainmail, or start to get plate armor, I don't need any of those items. That frees up a lot of inventory space, and makes the enchant-ability of the cloak a better trade-off.

Learn how to do management. Yeah, this game is not easy walk and requires from you at least some level of planning. I personally don't even consider this game as "hard", once you understand mechanics, balance, etc - it became very good in terms of difficulty. It doesn't mean it's masochistic just because you're bad at it.

Backpack is a joke. Cloak is better with the correct enchants.

The backpack does help when trying to hoard items (in order to maximize profit) at the beginning. Once you get top tier gear you no longer need the extra inventory space and the cloak becomes more worth it.

Opinions are just that....opinions. What I said wasn't a personal insult just a broad statement. You come off just like those two others I named attacking someone because you don't like their opinion. You insult me calling me bad at the game. Obviously I'm not the only one having a hard time with the game as I've read some of the other gamers opinions. I see you read my review about FTL & yeah so what? RNG was overpowering in that game like kick you in the balls overpowering ON EASY. Looks like Stoneshard may be headed down the same path. Yet, I'll hold off on giving it a review until it's finished. You LOVE this game? Sounds like it's your girlfriend....Get a life!

I dunno fam, when I played greatsword, I couldn't find any good cloaks so the bagpack was really effective.

Highly dependend on your build. But also, being weaker in combat vs getting more gold is a sacrifice you often have to make in this game. How many consumables you bring, whether or not you wear your boots, whether or not you buy medicine, even whether or not you bring your map... are all choices you have to make that balance money vs risk. You could even make a run without your waterskin or any food if you think you can finish before the status effects become an issue. You'll get more money, but it will be harder.

Not using a cloak to get extra slots is a really good trade-off for hoarders and cheapskates like myself.

But also you can do supply runs, where you don't intend to finish a dungeon, rather, you just clear the road leading to it and maybe the mobs outside. Since you can expect the fights outside to be easier, you can go with less supplies and bring all the useless tat back home to sell it. Then you can buy/bring all the medicine and food and go back to the dungeon on an already cleared road where you know you won't run into any bandits or wolves, clear the dungeon and go back home. You could even skip finishing the entire dungeon, and just clear the first 1 or 2 levels of it and bring even more stuff back to the town if you know you have more time left to finish the quest.

Bear in mind that enemies only respawn upon death, a reload or in some cases I think over a long period of time (not confirmed, just suspected).
