Only time will tell... I would like to see a spear skill tree as well, even with a pilum kind of option inside.
The spears should be fragile to don't have such a big advantage through the multifunctional usage of it.
It's not really great if an entire skill tree is only good early on and later gets too weak. This could be offset if it worked similarly to daggers in that you can easily swap to it. Maybe in the late-game you just throw the pilum/javelin as an opener and then swap to a different weapon. Could also be a good mid-way between melee and ranged weapons given that it would be the only ranged weapon other than magic that lets you make use of a shield against archers.
they rule the war
because it's simply have advantage for range, price, and easy to use
even peasant can easily kill a long year training knight with it
and with heavier design it also can replace mace weapon
about "spear skill tree"
maybe when weapon is add,it will come with skills
for now it's not accessible but it there
hell, axes got extra two hands category for it,"great axes"
same with great maul maybe is an two hands mace
i really wish pole weapon can attack two block range instead of one
That would be cool. Maybe some skills will.
Also, if they don't add a special skill tree for this weapon, what they could do is to allow some of the polearm skills (the ones that make sence) to be used with spears. I think some of the bow skills can be used with arrows and bolts.
And maybe the bow skill tree could allow to throw the spear: some of those skills could work with many throwing weapons.
Ofc, the best options would be to have a specific skill tree for spears and maybe a throw weapon skill tree too.
the pole weapon mobs do have skill that can attack range of 2 instead of 1
i do agree throw weapon should have it's own skill tree
But I do agree, some bow based skills like take aim could very well apply to thrown weapons, though I dunno how you'd attack melee with a spear if they were used like that. Personally I thought of the weapon as just a melee weapon that you can throw by using a skill button rather than that being the default click.
If there were a spear tree you could just have 2 different paths to go down on it, like, one path is for throwing it and another path to melee with it. And then the thrown path could have a passive skill that lets you swap weapons when you throw your spear, so that you immediately have your alternate weapon out as soon as you throw it. It would kinda suck if you had to spent an entire turn just to equip your second spear or your sword.
Also - This kinda brings back an old discussion about how many pilla romans used to have 1 or 2 in the sense that the game would have to decide if spears can stack and how that could be balanced.
Thanks for your quick answer! :)
