...no issues at all.
I have only just come across the game didn't see it on kickstarter otherwise i'd of backed it, it's great fun and there aren't any graphical issues. it's a pixel roguelike game... get over it.
I asked this a few weeks back fwiw (not much LOL). Might be a bunch of stuff that needs to be manually altered as a result.
Meybe add some blur options to the game if not 60fps...
Now that I think about it, Hyper Light Drifter is also using GMS2 and has no issue outputting 60fps despite being animated at 30.
It's good some people won't mind and will be able to enjoy the game as is but as excellent as the game can be I really can't stand the lack of smoothness. Again, it's not a problem of low framerate, I can play Breath of the Wild on switch at 30fps and enjoy it, it's a problem with the erratic frame timing.
Turn based games don`t need high fps
When I start the game, it runs nice and smooth, but when I get into the very first combat in the prologue, the game slows down and feels unresponsive.
Best example of this that I have is the first pyro skill "flame barrage".
When it runs smoothly, it fires the three projectiles "tap tap tap".
In slowdown, it´s more like "tap --- tap --- tap".
If it wasn´t for the part where it runs well, I could have written it of as just "annoyingly slow" and moved on, but since I know it can be better, it is very frustrating and I don´t know what´s causing it.
PS: 1 - I managed to somehow restore the speed in the demo after I reopened the game and reset after the tutorial. Couldn´t get it to work in the actual game.
PS: 2 - I checked a few YT videos just to make sure I´m not crazy.
Oh and sorry if I am in the wrong thread, but this seemed closest to what I´m dealing with.
Fps drops would cause slowdowns in a GMS game since the animation is usually tied to the framerate, which is why it's even more important in these games to make sure performance is stable.
Even if it's not performance issues the game is locked at 40 and some people can't stand it especially when they are used to playing at 60fps or higher. Some won't mind and it's okay: according to the VCA, 6 people out of 10 need some form of vision correction and can't tell the difference between two different framerates. Still it's always a cringe moment when someone tells me the difference doesn't exist.
In any case, the game has a huge potential but it's really rough right now, even for an Early access title. I really hope the devs will improve the technical aspect.
I was actually talking about both. I tried the free prologue, then bought the game since I was fairly interested and hoping some of the issued would be sorted out.
And you are comletely correct. I enabled the FPS counter and in the menu I´m at 40, but the game immediately drops to about half of that. I am used to dropping some frames from 60 to about 40 in other games, but it isn´t too much of a bother for me. This, however, is a steady drop, and it STAYS that way without change. Would like to know what the issue is, as this doesn´t seem to be a particularly "needy" game.
I have a somewhat older laptop, but I run games like DOOM (2016) without problem, excepting an occasional stutter.
I hope there is some way to fix this, whether in-game or in the system.
And thank you for helping me clear things up a little.
And for some reason this game appears to be the most demanding and/or poorly optimized thing I have ever greatly enjoyed.
I "solved" the FPS drop by setting the "effects" to low. Not medium, LOW. And it STILL drops when the weather gets misty.
Ah, the flex that is hidden as a status report ;) Well done, young Padawan, well done!
