[Spoiler] Finishing the Prologue
SooOo...how are you supposed to beat the Prologue end boss?

I tried using shield + lightning + fire, but I either run out of mana or health. Slightly better luck with a 2H weapon, but you don't always find one.

Still, at best I manage to kill one statue. The guaranteed damage every few turns form the magic missile thing is just too much.

Is there a particular build that works? Or do you just have to get very lucky with items? Or perhaps retreat is possible to beat the fight in a few goes?

run around untill the statues die for whatever reason.....
Then comes the main boss....

Oooh! That sucks :( I was sure you have to destroy the statues yourself.

Thanks for the heads-up. I actually might have a chance now ;)

Don't advance, but take the stairs back before the final stage. You'll get better items and skills as well.
As for me, I ended up destroying the statues with an axe and a shield buffed up by some potions. Life steal makes thing very easy (2+ pots) and something to boost your attack and/or defense.

Done!

EDIT: No main boss if you kill both statues.
On play through I ran away with 2 hp left after destroying the first statue, the second one exploded (probably I was too far) and the vampire transformed and killed me. Seems I need another run to get this ending!

yeah, same happened to me, they exploded, without me destroying them, he transformed and killed me with 2 hits...

No, you don't normally want him to transform into a monster. It's literally a bad ending, he's unkillable unless you hadn't abused the game by constantly re-rolling dungeons. So don't retreat, or he'll finish the ritual, kill your companions and become a Gargoyle.

Speaking of tactics: try to find as much good loot as you can on previous levels. Try to save as much potions as you can. Drink them before the fight. Don't get yourself cornered. Try to lure zombies into blood pools (they die, if they spend 2 turns there, unless being healed by the Altar). Avoid being hit by blood at all costs. Lightning Enchant is a very nice way to boost your damage. Try to save your Against The Odds skill until the very last effort, or when you're extremely low on HP (7 or less).

The prologue is quite luck-based (it won't be the case in the main game), so it's normal to try several times before you manage to find enough needed loot.

You're definitely not kidding about the luck part. I finally beat the game today; ended up with a two-handed sword that was rated 9 damage and a couple of armor pieces that added a couple strength levels each.

I just had my first successful run. Found plate mail, boots, gauntlets, a buckler (later upgraded to kite shield) and a rare flail that had a small life steal proc.

I just rushed the statues and clobbered them while stepping out of the blood pools. and stunned a zombie whenever the skill was up. If you have a lifesteal potion it will proc even when you hit the statues for some free health. I got cornered twice but teleporting potions saved me.

Really really fun game. can't wait for the launch.

In all cases where I've beaten the statues, I was dual wielding weapons and quaffed a couple potions that did things like strengthen and regenerate my health, etc. Pre-patch, I actually destroyed each statue in a single hit. Dual-wielding seems to be ridiculously overpowered, but I trust that'll be balanced out by the time the game goes gold.
