Well, the fact it's a clicker game is pretty obvious and it's not a thing that's affecting my review. Being a clicker game is not bad. However, this one certainly isn't a good clicker game and I'm going to give my reasons.

Pros:
1. The ancient Greece theme is kind of fun, even though here it's mostly about aesthetics. Kind of wish it was deeper, but still not bad.
2. Art (by clicker game standards) is pretty good.
3. Shame to admit, but leaderboard and daily rewards made a surprisingly good job at keeping me going.

Cons:
1. The insane amount of randomness. This game uses randomness in so many aspects that it becomes really annoying. Most of your abilities have a chance to be activated, every attack can crit, mutihit, multi-multi-hit, apply some effect, etc, etc, and then it can also be blocked, dodged, deal less damage, and the same goes for attacks from enemies. This alone causes a lot of randomness in fights, so that you can fight on a certain floor for a while and be okay with it, but then suddenly some amount of crits happens, some amount of heals do not happen and you suddenly lose. Not that it's much of a loss in progress but in idle game it means that you can't be sure, leaving your hero to fight, that it will be fine.
But that's not all because all premium rewards are rare. Random clickables - "urns" give rewards (aside from some small amount of money) randomly. And those random rewards include premium currency, on which I'll touch upon later.
There are also Rare urns that give better rewards and appear randomly, and Titan Urns that give huge rewards and appear randomly with a very low chance.
And also there are daily rewards that are random (and range from trash to amazing) and voucher treasures that are given for certain things, and those are literal roulette spin with rewards from atrocious to absolutely huge, with atrocious being the result 90% of the time.
2. The hugest problem for me, vague mechanics. Most of the descriptions for abilities are really vague. Say, there is an ability that gives a bonus to godpower but there is no saying if it's multiplicative or additive with other abilities. Or there's an abilitiy that gives 0.5% crit chance. Does it give flat + 0.5% to your crit chance or 0.5% of what you already have (say you have 50% crit chance, 0.5% of 50% would be 0.25%)? That's a huge difference. And, in fact, some abilities are multiplicative and some are additive and there's no saying which does which and thus how much of an effect it would have. Active skills' tooltips don't reflect any change that passive abilities have over them.
The worst part of this vague and unexpained mechanics is "DPS". To this day I don't know if DPS in this game is just an average damage calculated based on gladiator's attacks or it's, in fact, an absolutely separate damage that happens in addition to them. If it's former then why there are abilities that state that they are increasing DPS? If latter then there was never any real indication about that. Also, you can't see the damage of gladiator attacks itself anywhere, only DPS, which makes things even harder to estimate.
3. A slow progression with almost no way to accelerate it.
- No presige system
Most idle games have a system designed exactly for that: once you slow down too much, you reset the geme with bonus. This one isn't one of them
- No offline progression
Offline progression can be a saving grace for even a very mediocre game because it subjectively reduces time between things happen in-game. This one doesn't have it. To progress, you have to keep the game running.
- Very little in terms of in-game goals and rewards.
Game is basically linear. You can't have any kind of goals or strategies, except for "trophy" system which gives a very negligeable bonus of 1% per trophy.
4. Very dependant on premium currency.
Premium currency is mostly meant to be bought for money. In-game sources are both very random and very scarce.
And just so it happens that absolute majority of exciting abilities and upgrades are bought for premium currency.
Combine that with how slow the progress is and you'll see that it can be more than a little frustrating.

All in all, it's not a game I would recommend to anyone. If you wand a good idle game, play Realm Grinder or Idle Wizard.

An interesting clicker, but you'll quickly hit a massive paywall.
After finding a pretty big glitch, I asked the developer about it and they were quite rude about it. Will not be supporting this game anymore.

Almost 900 hours of idling and I'm done

Why?

It started good. Seemed fair, the "weekly wheel spins" gave me 100 apples and the urns gave me 2-5 per day. I have not gotten apples on a wheel spin in almost 8 weeks. Urns fail to give me apples at all anymore, maybe 1 per day, and the game has basically forgotton the "idle" aspect and now it wants me to sit here and stare at a screen clicking urns, and all these other items, in hopes that it will drop what I need. I've been 14/15 collections for the past 2 months as well because the game for some reason refuses to drop the very last item for the final collection. I've collected some collections repeatedly but one of them needs one more item, won't drop. I would come back every day and sometimes sit here for a solid 3-4 hours wasting time. Because if I don't, I won't get any apples or collectibles at all. Which, are required to continue through the game.

Again. It seems the developers forgot they are developing an idle game and have forgotton the idle aspect of it. Don't waste your time like I did.

Started playing this because I like clicker games and this one dealt with Greek mythology, which I also enjoy. Game started out fine and it felt a little easy, but I figured there'd be stop gaps eventually. This is not what I envisioned. This game seems to be solely focused around the pay to win format, even if you can get the golden apples for free in the game, you are required to gather them and buy stuff in the store in order to progress. This emphasizes to the player that they have to acquire the apples somehow, pay money, to progress. I cannot recommend this game as a result. I spent $25 on the game.

To give you my current stats as of this review:

1) Consumables are mandatory for progress and have different timers, so in order to maximize progress, you're using 1 experience scroll and 15 rage potions (for 30 minutes of buffs), because experience determines level. Level determines damage output/health. I threw $25 at the game to support the devs and I had some experience buffs from various things, so my experience will be different from someone who doesn't spend money. However, at the point where I just had enough with it, I was getting anywhere from .01-.10% (without special mobs) per creature kill, with the experience scroll and rage potion active. When I didn't have a rage potion active, I would go back several paths and it was about .01-.02% per kill. That's 5000-10000 enemies per level, ignoring quest, clickables, and special mobs giving extra experience. That's over an hour at 1 kill per second to gain a level, which may or may not even progress you to the next path level.

2) GodPower/Shards/Drachma - Drachma seems to be fine in terms of scaling, the only use it has is to build armor, but it's easy enough to get to the point where you can't build armor you need without grinding several more paths to get more money. Which leads to the buyable smithy in the game that gives you a craft once every minutes, stacking to 5 crafts max. Again, focusing on golden apples to progress in the game. Shards scale ok as well. They increase the bonuses of your armor, but it could take several hours, without clicking on things that pop up on the screen or getting a massive bonus somehow (daily/weekly bonuses) to increase the levels of your armor. GodPower, however, scales the worst in my opinion. You need to buy blessings in the game to pump up several things passively. At the point that I'm at, these don't put a dent in the game at all. The only reason I'm even able to level things up right now is because I click on urns, and get lucky, to get some godpower and was grinding candies for the Halloween event, which randomly gives you godpower as well. Otherwise, I'm getting about 200-300F godpower randomly every 5-10 seconds when I don't have scavenge active, while things cost me 700G+ godpower for one level. One level that will not make a noticeable difference in my progress at all.

Again, it's worth it to note that buying stuff in the store will increase your godpower/shard/drachma bonus, which will make it easier to level up stats and whatnot. God cards and realm buffs exist solely for this purpose. 50 golden apples will net you a tier 1 god card (not sure what the tier 2 ones are), for a 25% godpower, 50% drachma, and 25% exp permanent bonus. 10 golden apples will net you 1 level in the realm bonuses, which gives 4% to godpower, experience, and shard amounts, and 8% to drachma, as well as give two other buffs per level, up to level 100. Meaning, you need 1k for the maximum bonus in one of 3 realms, which also gives a damage/health bonus (also needed in the game).

3) The amount of babysitting required for this game to maximize the benefits is beyond insane. The one thing I enjoyed was the companion game that played by itself, but otherwise, at this point with the Halloween event, I have to check every 5 minutes to look for, and click, one of four things. Urns are required for godpower and the off chance of getting apples from it. Collectables are required to turn in collections in order to receive a bonus to damage/health once you turn in every collection, and for the off chance that you get lucky enough to finish the collection that gives 50 apples. Hasn't happened for me in the 240 hours I've played, even with the vouchers giving me two sets of collectables as a reward. And there's a random dice that you can roll every 5 minutes for bonus quest drops, extra godpower and shards.


What may have been a unique idea to the clicker game out there, seems like it was designed intentionally to draw in people with more money than patience. I would not recommend playing this game in this state.

For a clicker with the usual trouble of ill-calculated high-level progress, this one is actually quite good.

Can't say that I really used all of its functions at the moment, though. There is a "companion": separate, yet unfinished leveling scheme and 3-in-row mini-game, there is a "minesweeper" clone mini-game with neat prizes of in-game currencies for winning. And there is no need for constant restart-to-gain-more-numbers-building-from-the-scrap-again! You "build" your character in many ways, you distribute skill points and craft newer armor and gathering many aids from the gods... What I'm trying to say is that God Awe-full Clicker is pretty much more diverse than some usual "Clicker heroes" or "AdvCapitalist" clone, which is actually doing something in its own way.

Not that I actually recommend it to someone, mind it! Clicker games are for non-players who are ready to wait for days literally when the numbers in the game will change. But I have seen dozens of clickers and among them, this one is really good. Not the best-of-the-best, sure, but somewhere in the top-ten.

I've seen the game through many "levels" ("paths"), about 60000+, "vip6" status and all that. Yes, there are some tight spots when you don't have enough god-power to unlock the next special ability, and you need to wait for it for days... or play "minesweeper" clone for some hours, and receive that god-power a bit faster. There are some technical issues other than bad numbers calculation: sometimes you can't connect to the server and play the game at all (was fixed not so long ago, but I still hear about that issue). The game forgets every time when I close it about some minor things, like hammers in the forge or that I turned off the visual effect "wings"...

All in all, I give it 5.5/10, and the "upvote" for at least some originality in the line of generic clickers. Would Steam implement the neutral gray option, I'd choose it instead, of course.

So 1. we got a game that doesn't have updated tooltips to portray current information. 2. no information about how the numbers work with each other. What's additive, what's multiplicative. 3. Arbitrary mechanics and limitations. 4. Too many things to collect on-screen. 4. Poorly worded tooltips/suggestions. 5. A dev who can't handle admitting something might be pointless.

This is something I said on the discord server. After which me and a dev had a discussion. I'd be willing to rewrite point number 5, but essentially it's still true.

Even IF all those things weren't an issue, like most people say, you hit a wall hard. And you feel stuck. Maybe it's BECAUSE of the lack of resetting, but you just feel like you can't do anything to speed back up. There's no "gaining" back momentum. There's just a wall that you have to push and push and push until maybe something unlocks that give you a short boost, but it's hard to keep a positive attitude about it. Try it, please, you may like it. It's a niche game. But I can't recommend it.

While definitely an interesting idle game with some cool features, the game is only fun up to about 4000. Until then, progress is smooth and you get some cool features with your skill tree, the abilities, the gods and such. After 4000, you hit a huge wall where you make only very little progress. New improvements cost more godpower than you can possibly get from enemies in any decent amount of time, with improvements like 0,001 % double godpower chance or something like that. Progress slows to a crawl as a result, you barely get stronger and while I have no problem with idle games requiring some more time investment, even after 500 more paths crawling my way to 4500, I have yet to find a way to speed things up in a way that makes the game actually fun again. It´s good for a while, at least, but unless you want to grind hundreds of (idle) hours for very miniscule gain, I recommend avoiding this game - other idle games do it better.

I never understood why idle games have negative reviews with the same nonsense about them being repetetive, same as others, etc.. while this game has features others has, the artwork and depth are very well done. without spending money im still having fun. Easily one of the best idle games i have played. If you like idle games you will love this one. if you download every idle game and leave reviews saying its just another clicker... this game is obviously not for you.

Seemed okay for the first six hours, but at around that time (approximately when I maxed out the Base Skills tree and unlocked Class Skills, around path 2800 or 3000), progress suddenly hit a wall. Newly unlocked Divine Abilities (which appear to be the main driver of progress) are suddenly able to be bought in one-or-two at a time instead of thousands, and when it's only ten times the effect of upgrades that *have* been bought in the thousands, you see practically zero benefit from the purchase.

I'm not totally sure what path I was actually up to, hence the very rough approximations of the point I reached. I really don't know for sure, because they all seemed to be the same five backgrounds cycling, it's probably the first "numbers go up" game I've played where I actually didn't care about my numbers, or notice them going up.

There's lots of systems, which looked fun initially (since there's no prestige system), but once progress slows, the costs of those systems are suddenly too high to be used effectively, slowing progress more.

So around 3000 paths in the first 6 hours of active gameplay, the next half hour (plus the twelve hours of idle-time between sessions) advanced perhaps 10 paths, and mostly doing nothing waiting to accumulate some currency or other so I could add another 5% buff to something with a current buff of 400000%.

I regret putting money into a "one time offer" (double-apples for the first purchase) which appears to have remained available, and I doubt I'll fire the game up again, let alone put any more money in it.

And as a side-note, there's a couple of UX issues:
* The various UI screens have the common elements (X to close, the Info icon, etc) in different places each time, defying both its own conventions, and the conventions of any common desktop environment.
* The prices in the store are not marked as USD, meaning when I tried to buy something, suddenly the AUD conversion kicked in and nearly doubled the list-price. Steam's IAP API works in the player's local currency, but if not using it, e.g., because prices were hand-drawn into the UI textures, they should be marked with USD or US$ so that players know what they're in for.

- 12th July 2019. Recently Offline progress was added to the game. It works fine as long as you log in to see it. Note that you do not gain offline rewards if you get the daily rewards pop-up instead.

- 7th April 2019 I went for the God-like bonus, so starting here my account is technically no longer F2P, but the March review is still from a F2P perspective. (I was F2P up to Path 8107)
Edit: Forgot to specify that at the time of getting this premium bonus I had purchased everything from the premium shop other than one Pet and most Realms for freely earned Apples.

- 31st of March 2019 thoughts. I'm at Path 7348. Steam playtime 1439.5 hours at the time of writing.

I've been playing God Awe-full Clicker (later GAC) for quite a while. At one point I burnt out, so had to take a break for a few months, but kept logging in every now and then anyway.

Graphics and Artstyle: The game has quite a nice artstyle that is consistent and pleasant to look at. Color palette seems to fit perfectly for the theme they are going for.

Animations: This being an incremental game, they are fine as is. It's interesting that they even animated the main character at all and his animation seems to work well (At least for Gladiator and Guardian).

User Interface: The new UI has made things a lot better in the sense that the game is more convinient to play. X button on the bottom of most windows makes it easier to quickly change between them, because their opening icons are right there at the bottom anyway. The new health bar information on your Gladiator and enemies is a lot smoother than it used to be. (Although I wish we had a toggle to keep the Execution threshold on at all times).

Upgrades / Progression: The most important part of an incremental game is progression. I like it, when these games include a ton of different things to upgrade, even if they overlap. I think that having 5 upgradable items for 5 stats isn't as fun as having 20 upgradable items for 5 stats, especially because of the way you can make them multiply with each other. I also tend to prefer each upgrade having a level cap instead of being infinite.

How is it here? The Divine Blessings system is awesome. There are so many of them to upgrade at any given time that you'll always have something to put your God Power into. Whenever you reach the next Blessing with the same stat that one of your previous ones had, you feel the addition instantly (but it falls off over time as usual because of how percentages work). You also have Relics and Skill Points that increase gameplay variety for your Gladiator. The store cards are probably the most fun ones if you're not a fan of passive stat boosts (I like when games include both, but I tend to prefer stat boosts). You also have a crafting system, where you can get equipment for your Gladiator making your character more customizable than is tradition in games like this.

Gameplay: This is an incremental game, where enemies fight back, so your Gladiator has health. That makes progression different from other games and seems to also make it more satisfying when you do beat that next boss. I'm a defensive player in RPGs and GAC seems to allow me to play as defensively as I want without ruining my ability to progress, which is always a plus. Lots of procs occasionally make you significantly stronger and that's usually the time to try and push onwards. Your Gladiator can use abilities on his own, so there is no need to stay there and play, which is another plus in an incremental game as far as I'm concerned.

This game also lacks a reset / rebirth system, which is a great breath of fresh air. As a result the way it's balanced makes it noticably faster in terms of progression compared to most other incrementals. However, not only is it faster, but because there is no reset system the game feels more satisfying to progress in than probably 19 out of 20 incrementals with reset systems do simply because the resetting system is often used as an excuse to not properly balance a game.

Premium balance: The game has a Golden Apple store that gives you a lot of different boosts. Now, while these do affect gameplay quite a bit and there are A LOT of them, the game gives out Golden Apples at a fair enough pace.

Overall I think the game is fun and I would recommend it to anyone, who wants to try a more RPG-like incremental game that feels satisfying to progress in.
