Crash when looking out of window
Hi,

I've tried playing this game a few times over the past few years, and have always had the same issue of the game crashing as soon as I look out of the window (I think I've only ever tried the red mission). I've never reported it before as I was running it on an R7 370, but I recently upgraded to a 5700XT and get the same issue.

The error I get is "Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost": https://i.imgur.com/yjaSqx4.png

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a fix?

Thanks, Si.

I tried a lot of possible fixes but even increasing the Timeout in the registry didn't help. It happens as soon as I open the shutter. There is something that triggers an error in the driver as soon as it's rendered.

What helped to run the 5700 XT a lot more stable was to "factory reset" and reinstall the AMD drivers with the "Standard" setting in the driver. (Not Gaming or eSports).
But it still crashes in some cases.

Are there at least some graphics settings somewhere? I was unable to find an options menu in game.

The link doesn't seem to work, can you try again?

Are you running the game with your integrated graphics card?

Googling for issue you're describing comes up with a few suggestions:

Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel by right clicking on your desk top and clicking on “NVIDIA Control Panel”.

In the default screen that pops up (it should be “manage 3D settings”, and the “Program Settings” tab should be automatically selected), under “1. Select a program to customize:” hit the “Add” button.

From here, navigate to the folder where your steam games are located. For me, it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common.

Select the folder for the game you want to use your NVIDIA card for, and find the .exe for that game (it’s usually right in the main game folder). Select it and hit open.

Then, under “2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program:” open the drop-down menu and select “High-performance NVIDIA processor”.

Finally, hit apply in the far bottom right corner, and you should be good to go!

When you start the game from Steam, the .exe will be opened, which will now run with your NVIDIA card by default rather than your integrated card. I’ve noticed that most older games, when started, will use the integrated card by default. The method described above can be used for any .exe file, not just games in your steam library!

Pretty sure if I was running it off the motherboard I'd have gotten nowhere near a smooth experience before the crash. And I've got an AMD card so I don't think there even is a setting for preferred GPU.

I am having the exact issue. Problem presents in exactly the same way, exact same error message. My gear: AMD Ryzen 5 3600, AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, Oculus Rift.

I also have that issue but SteamVR is completely down after that and I have to restart my PC.
My CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
My GPU: AMD Radion RX 5700 XT
My VR-Headset: Oculus Rift S

Hey, we've received a couple of comments from people with an AMD GPU that have been experiencing similar issues. We've contacted AMD support but can't really test it ourselves as we do not have the hardware, so I'm afraid for the foreseeable future we aren't able to help resolve this :/

If any of you happen to find a fix, whether it is re-installing drivers or anything like that, please do let us know so we can inform others with the same problem.

Cheers,

Ramon

Yeah, I'm having the same issue. Shame.

And are you using an AMD graphics card?
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Hey IssioN, thanks for the update :) It's really a shame that it's not working with certain graphics cards, but I'm afraid we don't have the resources to fix it. I've marked your reply as the answer as it seems like the closest thing to a fix that we've heard so far.

Hi, I know I'm kinda late, but there is a solution. I had the same issue with my RX 5600XT, but I was using the driver version 20.8.3. So I updated to the latest driver and the game worked for me.
Hope this also helps you.
