ON THIN ICE
If your having trouble navigating through the ice here's a little secret that I use to navigate safely. Change your view to 3rd. person Shift-F3 then use your up arrow key to elevate your view, now look very closely at the ground around you, the correct path will be slightly darker than the surrounding ice. Move slowly don't get too far ahead of your recycler and you should make it. Oh, and make sure you assign your wingman to protect the Recycler. Your welcome. ^^

Alternatively you could just look at the radar in the bottom left; the water under the ice is indicated where the radar grid drops. As long as you avoid going over those areas with the recycler, you'll be fine. Annotated screenshot for reference: https://imgur.com/a/qAKIx the yellow line indicates the path you're supposed to take.

Smash enough ice and the recycler will automatically nav through the rest of the path, though apparantly there's a chance that it won't return to your control. Destroying your dropship before leaving reduces the number of attacks you'll face on the ice as well.

Yeah, for now I'd avoid destroying the ice since you don't have to and it seems to always work that way. It may be helpful to destroy the ice once to see exactly where the water is and then reload though. The rhinos won't bother you or walk onto the ice if you don't attack them, although they may harmlessly follow the recycler around until it deploys. The best way to destroy the dropship is to get out of your tank via H and deploy the satchel charge you have inside the dropship with C.

Great idea.

You have a charge. Two charges also destroy the ice.

And that than triggers a game ending bug :)

Can also change the radar to the flat map, and any "blue" on the map is where it breaks.

What is the game ending bug?

I played the map within the last two months without issue.

I used the charges during that run through.

The bug is that at the moment, the recycler won't return to your control after clearing the path if you broke enough ice for it to travel automatically

Yeah also getting this issue - you also don't get control of the Turret either which IIRC you are supposed to get control of or at least follows the Reccy.

I assumed the turret was meant to be buried in the ice.

This is an artifact of the way the script spawns it, which is slightly randomised - a little too randomised, because it sometimes spawns underwater (and, apparently, under ice...).

Guys it is so simple, just look at your RADAR, you will clearly see higher ground to lead your recycler. If you shoot rhinos they will follow you, lure them into lake. Just look at radar :D

Thank you for regiving advice that's already been stated multiple times, as well as some that currently causes a mission ending bug.
