Red Box Question

Regarding the red box in the tree stump at the playground I was wondering how other people found it. I came across it totally by chance while exploring but I know that in letters around the game you learn that it was put there as sort of a scavenger hunt for Sophia. However, I didn't see any blatant clues leading me to it and would have likely missed it if I hadn't found it by chance. Was there a mystery here that I missed?

Hi, sorry for getting back to you so late. Regarding your question, here's the answer found in Innocentive's amazing guide:

According to Steve Moss' diary 1997-3 there are clues on the outside walls of the Sofia's and Matthew's favourite places in Panscreek. The diary also mentions Sofia's favourite places. Matthew's favourite places are written down in Matthew's diary 1971. The clues are 'Stream', 'Playground', 'Bird', 'House', 'Stump', and a four digit code.
