We initially thought about providing a closure for Scott’s death, but decided against it towards the end of production for two main reason. First, the main story is centered on solving the murder of Vivian Roberts so we decided to focus developing everything that supports it. Second, solving Scott’s murder proved to be another case for the police since it’s a different killer, so we opted to have it unsolved or open-ended. We did try to place adequate hints so that players ciould pin-point the right killer. Looking back, we probably could have developed Scott’s story a bit more.
You are right that Andrew dropped off the baby to Father Calvin. Andrew didn’t have the heart or motive to commit a murder, let alone two in one night. We decided that Father Calvin actually knew what truly happened to Sofia. As a man of the cloth, he did not want the same thing to happen to the baby. Instead, he convinced Andrew to let him handle the baby. Andrew was so distraught at the death of Sofia that this proposal would lessen his already burdened heart. Once Father Calvin had the baby, he passed him off to the care of the orphanage. The rumor that Sofia left the village was made up after that night.
When Matthew came back from overseas missionary work, he probably did question about Sofia’s whereabouts, not buying into the fact that Sofia would leave without telling him. However, as everyone seemed to believe that Sofia left Painscreek, and Father Calvin adviced him to focus not on matters of the heart but what his true purpose is, Matthew decided to let it go. Father Calvin probably could not bear to deceive Matthew all these years that Matthew worked under him. So prior to his death, he revealed what he thought was best for Matthew to know.
I hope that helps with explaining certain things that might have eluded or untold in the game. Thank you again for enjoying TPK :)
The thing with Father Calvin though is that since we don't learn much information about him Im led to believe that he his a normal priest, so it's hard for me to see he wouldn't tell any authorites about Sofia, especially if he knew. A real priest would have told Matthew when he got home what happened to Sofia and would try to work out his anger instead of telling him like 10 years later and saying right before his death.
I appreciate your reply, Im glad to see developers very active. Are yall making another mystery game? Because this open world mystery stuff was tight and I'd love to see another.
