I've hit a wall and could use some hints (SPOILERS)
I'm very deep into the investigation but I cannot get into Trisha's music box.

I have searched every place in town thoroughly. I suspect it would be in a few logical places linked to Scott:

* The mansion shed. I've searched it.
* The hunting cabin. I've searched it, including the basement..
* The church. I've been everywhere in there.

I believe that inside the music box I will find a key that will lead to a chain of events that will unravel the places I can't get into:

* Need tools from Photo shop (locked)
* Need power from basement of hospital (locked) to use key card on office door
* Need key to get into Dorothy's bedroom (I believe it could be in Trisha's music box because she said she could stay there in a note)
* Need shovel to get into the time capsule buried in the cemetery

I feel so close but so far away!

Hi there. There's an amazing guide written by Innocentive posted here. It has all the answers to the game's puzzles, yet doesn't spoil the story at all. Try checking it out and if you are still stuck, let us know.

Hey there EQ, thanks for the link. It pushed me past the hump in the game and I finished it with 98% complete :)

Steam says I missed 8 achievements so I might have to go back and look a bit harder.

I noticed that the light switch in the cabin wasn't working and I suspected it did something but I couldn't understand where or how the cross would come into play.

I wanted to share my thoughts with you on the game since you seem very involved in your community here.

First, great game. I am not a great detective but the clues were good enough that I could follow them. I only got stuck a few times and the hint above helped push me through. I also had to search online one other time for the safe combination in the mansion which I shouldn't have done because you learn that easily later.

I'm curious... why is this set in the United States when the country is clearly England? It reminds me of Somerset.

Hardest Parts for me:

  • Despite knowing that there was a hidden panel in the inn, I looked for so long and came back over and over trying to find it
  • I knew the time capsule was in the cemetery but I thought it was behind the SECOND locked gate because there was a big rock in there, too
  • It was difficult KNOWING what to do but being stuck behind a series of dominos to knock down first. One of the first things you learn in the game (5 minutes in) is that the photographer has the tools. Those tools are needed for a ton of clues and keys in the game but you don't get the tools until late in the game because there is a series of events you have to do first.
  • The secret room in the church was like the secret room in the cabin. Very hard to find. The secret room in the mansion was slightly easier.
  • The chase scene at the end was pretty scary. Hard to think on your feet. One of the first things I did was run to the roof of the hospital and I ran away from the edge thinking it was a dead end. I didn't realize it would trigger the end of the game until 20 minutes later.

Thanks for the great game. Oh I just remembered the hardest one of all.

I would have NEVER found the stump next to the playground if I didn't run back and forth to the cabin 20 times and accidentally run off the path. I didn't realize that part was even accessible!

When we first developed the game, we came across an image and it felt perfect for the game's atmosphere and environment. Later, we researched real locations that resemble it and found Castle Combe by accident. It was used as our inspiration for developing Painscreek. However, we have never been to England and are not familiar with things there. We are also more comfortable with how addresses and phone numbers are listed in America. That's how TPK turned out to be. I guess this caused an issue with some of the players. We will try to avoid this problem in future games.

We designed the game where the main storyline can be unlocked without too much difficulty. This is for players who want to focus on finding the truth about Vivian's murder. Anything outside of the main storyline, whether directly or indirectly linked, will be harder to unlock. One example is the hidden panel in the inn. Unlocking it provides you with more backstory, yet it won't hamper the main storyline if players could not unlock it. Having said that, the secret room in the Church and the Cabinwere meant to challenge all players because they serve as crucial plot-points to the player's investigation.

That was meant to be a side story and not meant to just be stumbled upon although you can definitely do that :) There are actual clues on how to unlock it, and discovering its content would reward players with a certain NPC's storyline.

Thank you for liking the game. Hope this answers your questions :)

No don't! I loved the town design.

Also, go visit England on your next vacation :)

Same! The stump was literally the first thing I encountered and it took me awhile to find the code to it, but when I did I felt such a wonderful feeling of satisfaction. I am having a lot of fun reading about other people's experiences with this game because of the ability to choose where and what order to explore in this game. So good!
