For the secret room in the study: As you already know, the text on the back of the book gives you a hint to solving this puzzle. The confusing part is how vague the text presents itself, the answer is that those numbers are indicating which books you need to press and in which order. First press the 4th book from the right, second the 6th book from the left, and finally the 3rd book from the right.
