Study room locked desk - darts
The clue says to subtract the yellow points from the red total.

The red total is 146 and the yellow points add up to 9.

This means the code should be 137, right? But it doesn't work. And the lock has 4 numbers, and 0137 doesn't work either.

Just on appearances this seems to be the most controversial puzzle in the game. I would suggest either removing the "hole" on the board people have already mentioned causes massive frustration or adding several more. The latter combined with the dart on the ground would probably give people the hint that there's more information still to be found, although they likely will still just brute force it.

I have to say it doesn't make much sense for there to be a photo of the complete dartboard in the first place.

Beyond this one puzzle being quite frustrating I absolutely love the game.

So I can ignore this puzzle until I find a photo? Cuz I found all the "false" clues people have mentioned and now I'm mad. lmao

You can actually guess it, if you are patient enough. But it will take a quite a while to go through all combinations of where the missing dart could have been: there are 61 options (although it's unlikely you'd have to go through all 61 of those). In a similar vein, when I found a key in a locker in the mansion and had no idea which door it was for, I literally walked around town trying it on houses until I finally found the correct one :-)

The darts puzzle is bad game design: In any game, a puzzle is expected to be solvable in some kind of way. Therefore hints exists. In the case of the darts puzzle, that hint is the dropped red arrow on the floor and the note in the drawer.

Those hints imply that the red dart was at some point attached to the board and fell down. This means you have to somehow figure out the original position.

As we cannot assume that there is a hint missing (it is on the ground after all) we can use our environment to try to derive that missing info from things immediately around us: The dart board. Here comes the design flaw:

The dart board offers an intuitive hint: A very prominent black pixel on the surface at the number 6:

It is even on the right side of the board and the only visible imperfection. That has to be the hint! But adding the arrows does not give the right solution. Hm. Wasn't there a rule sheet at the inn ? Maybe we are calculating things the wrong way. So then you work through the 501 rule-sheet which is further confusing as it opens many possibilities on how to calculate a possible score. Combined with the switiching of digitis (0 at start or end?) you now have people thinking they found the clues but cant put them together.

Then you have a 4 digit code with a 3 digit solution giving a lot of ambiguity to any possible combination. Especially if you are following a wrong clue.

To read here : Well, the code is on a photography you discover later is sooo frustratingly stupid that I will not continue playing the game as I am afraid that things like that will happen more often.

I'm glad I put off playing this game until after you wrote this, because that was a cathartic read.

I just got finished trying to work out the puzzle. I had to look up the value of each place on a dartboard, going through a few pictures until I found one that matched up with the one in the game. I even noticed the pixel where I assumed the red dart on the floor was supposed to be, but no matter how I added things up, none of the combinations I tried work.

I felt bad looking up the solution, but I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who had trouble with that puzzle.
