Why are Rangers still credited with the history and trophies of Glasgow Rangers who were liquidated in 2012, with the new club having had to reapply for a license to play in Scottish Football at the lowest level in the league?

Because it was agreed upon that the the company that owned Rangers was liquidated and not the club itself. They transferred the clubs history to the new company that owns Rangers. The SFL, UEFA and the European Club Association had all agreed that Rangers history is considered intact.

"It was agreed upon" seems a rather oblique way to explain it, lol.

Scottish football fans were given a disservice, the amount of cheating going on not only in Rangers fc (oldco) but also in the aftermath, it was an absolute disgrace to Scottish football.

Anyways what has been has been, we (Scotish football) will return to the natural duopoly that was intended, hoovering up anything that even resembles a player.

My funniest moment in the whole saga is how it let us watch in slow motion, a once true legend of Rangers fc (oldco), crumble in every way, shape and form, threatening people, being a terrible manager and then getting put on gardening leave. "Super" Ally, we salute you, sir !, take a bow.. now a dirty taste in every Rangers (newco) fans mooth.

Oh then there was that time...Rangers fc (oldco) got sold for a pound, yes a one pound coin, flicked across a boardrooms table.

And that other time... when it turned oot that "Sir" David Murray got his "EBT" advice from a porn star.

It truely is "you couldnae make it up" stuff, utter comical from one disaster onto another..

I don't disagree with you at all actually. What happened there was a farce and it's sad that in reality there wasn't much of a punishment for all of the ridiculous things that happened. But they asked a question and I answered it. It's not up to us to get to decide if their past counts and the people who it is up to, decided that there is a continuation. Of course, I'm not trying to downplay your opinion, because I completely agree with you in that regard!

Thanks for the update... but surely the Glasgow Rangers went as bust as Third Lanark and others such as Gretna, Clydebank, Airdrie, etc.,. So New Rangers are exactly that, new since 2012. Just because corrupt governing bodies haven't told them to stop claiming the history and trophies of Glasgow Rangers doesn't mean game makers have to play ball. Neither of those other Scottish clubs who returned as new clubs have been told tthat they can keep claiming the history and trophies of the clubs which died, either in reality or in simulation games. So come on Football Manager amend the history of new Rangers 2012.

But now you're asking them to go against the people who they purchase the rights from which wouldn't be a very good idea. We want them to aquire more rights so we get a more detailed game! I personally agree that they shouldn't be able to claim the history. But again, it's not our decision and the people who get to make that decision have chosen to allow them to consider it a contiuation of the club. They can't even legally do it since Rangers are a member of the Club Football Association and they have determained it to be the same club and SI buy the rights to use proper club names and histories. If it really bothers you, you can go and edit it in the pre-game editor and make it how you think it should be.

People are only pointing out that any other liquidated clubs who have then started over as a new club, have not been allowed to claim the history and trophies of the old club, neither in reality nor in games. The Rangers which began anew in 2012, free of the debt and liabilities of Glasgow Rangers Football Club, is a different club from the one which ended the same year, following decades of financial mismanagement and tax evasion.

It’s quite simple really. When the oldco company was liquidated, the assets were purchased by the newco. Ibrox stadium, Murray Park, and yes...all those trophies.

It’s amusing that the chap above laments other clubs have “not been allowed to claim trophies” after insolvency events.

Really? Are you familiar with Italian football ? Do you obsess over whether the team that plays in Naples now is the same Napoli of Diego maradona?

Maybe you’d like to look closer to home...say Hibernian? Nobody seems to object to them claiming their trophies of the 19th century, inspite of them going bust in the early 20th century.

So next time you play FM, you look at Rangers history, you see those 54 titles....maybe just take a breath and stop being such a loser ? :))

Well we can go about this without insulting others. It's really not that complicated, the people who get to make the decisions made the decision that they consider the trophies and the complete history to be intact. That's as simple as it can be! You are allowed to have an opinion on it but that doesn't change the FACT that as it stands, they are considered to be a contiuation of the old club. Again, you can disagree with that and that's fine but bringing up all these other clubs and the fact that some of them were not allowed to claim their history after a liquidation doesn't have any effect on this situation. Also, if you don't like it and feel it should be different, then by all means use the pre-game editor and remove all their trophies and change their date founded. Pretty simple
